Feb 20 - Cape Coral

We left NSB and had an uneventful trip to Cape Coral. Google said 4.5 hours; the NAV said 4 hours; it took 4.5 hours. Of course the NAV didn't take into account all the stopping and waiting along US 17 as we cut away from I75 on the route down. I think that we'll take the Interstate back.

Jason had a gang -- Kim, Mike, Jill -- Gavin had already had his visit; Kyle has never been to Florida. Kyle is back in Brantford starting a new job with TD Bank and looking after Mike & Jill's dog Noodles. Chili is here in Florida and greeted Abby with joyful barks.

We had lunch and then did a little touring, seeing the pier at the public yacht club. We talked about going to one of the clubs affiliated with the Smyrna Yacht Club but it was going to take too long and waste too much time driving around in the President's Day holiday traffic. There are actually three in the area -- two in Fort Myers and one on Captiva Island. Perhaps another time we'll do that.

I went for a brief swim in the pool, getting Abby in there with me. To say that she was reluctant is an understatement -- not being able to see the steps, she thought that she was jumping into deep water. Once she was on the top step it was easier to get from there to swimming around.

The rental place is great. With four bedrooms, a fairly open concept, laundry room, pool and deck area -- even a boat lift -- it's a perfect setup. Jason can get out on his bicycle; Lorraine can run ... but of course all the company makes it difficult to just "live" since everyone visiting is on vacation.

We ate a late dinner because I had an Ontario Randonneurs conference call from 7:30 to 8:00 p.m. Flank steak, beans, roast potatoes, salad, key lime pie ... as usual we ate well. We always do.

I turned in sometime after 10:30 -- late for me indeed -- and got up a little before 6 a.m. -- also late. There's another nice weather day ahead of us, but we'll leave here to head back at some point, no specific time planned.

Onward ...
