Feb 25 - well, that didn't work out !

Is it really bad luck to break a mirror ? If so, I'm in trouble.

I finally hung the mirror in the bathroom ... you know where this is going. I'd glued 3/4" plywood to the back of the mirror and given it 48 hours to dry instead of the 24 hours recommended. Picking up really strong wall hooks and hooks for the mirror itself, I got those in place and then also had to move the light fixture ... rats.

The basin and faucet are not quite centered on the granite top of the vanity and although I'd compensated for that when installing the light fixture, because it actually hangs down in front of the mirror, another 1/2" adjustment was necessary. Of course that 1/2" exposed the edge of the junction box so I had to do a little drywall work.

Two hours later, as the fish was on the grill and I was opening the can of paint in the next room, about to do the touch-up work on that now-dry drywall patch ... bump ... crash. The mirror dropped, fell forward over the faucet, landing on the top of the mirror frame. The frame is intact; the mirror is cracked across.

So where did I fail ? Well, the glue drying time is obviously if both parts being glued are able to breathe at some given rate. The mirror is impermeable to moisture, obviously, and I guess that the plywood is much more resistant to moisture than plain ordinary wood. I'd have been much better off with a chemical process glue, like epoxy.

I'll do this again but won't rely on glue to support the weight of the mirror. I'm not giving up !

Backing up ...

Christie came by and picked up her bike, ready to load it into the moving van. We may or may not see her next week -- I'm betting not. Sandy had a session with John and was happy with him; I'll try him as well. My objective is to work him out of a job, supporting me that is. Surely I can get enough of a routine going that I can maintain reasonable core strength without paying a trainer -- after all, I do the same on a bike.

I'm sure that I did other things yesterday but the mirror business ...

Oh yes, I spent the middle part of the day having a first run at our taxes. That wasn't fun. With the rental property, things have changed. I need to go back over it again.

Today -- not sure. If it doesn't rain, I'll go for a ride.

Onward !
