The gaps between posts are getting longer. I was certain that I'd posted in between but no ...
Busy days with RUSA stuff and then headed to Barrie on Friday, had dinner with Dick Felton and Charles Horslin, left early the next morning (Saturday) for Vaughan and the Hills Villes and Valleys 300k, back by 2am on Sunday, Mass that morning and that accounts for my major movements !
David came up for the weekend. I saw him on Sunday. He headed home before dinner.
My trip to Barrie was sort-of aborted. I hit a pothole on 522 with the X5, destroyed a tire, drove back to the cottage slowly on the runflat, changed for the donut and then took Sandy's car to Barrie. In the midst of that, contacted Arnstein Garage who sourced a tire that will be her Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm hoping that the rim is ok; going to take the messed up wheel to them today (Monday) to check out.
The ride was beautiful and the weather was great. I did reasonably well, finishing up a little after 9pm. Man there are some expensive homes being built in the greater Toronto burbs. The Region population signs tell the tale - GTA pop is now 6 million, still short of NYC at 8.6 but big nonetheless.
There are a lot of short, sharp hills on the route, grades ranging 9-15% that give you a workout. The elevation ranges from 200 to 500 meters, so it's not breath-taking, but a lot of of the time we're at the higher elevations and the wind is an issue too. Oh well, that's the name of the game.
The 600k out of Barrie took place at the same time. Dick handled the brevet card distribution (I brought those down to him) and I've now heard back from Charles who finished up at 7:20 pm yesterday.
The mosquitoes in the house were awful yesterday and I guess they were on Saturday too. Now, however, they've either disbursed or we killed them all.
Now I have to get ready to fly to Europe on Saturday. It will be a busy week. The tire complicates things too ...
Onward !
