Jul 25-27 - goings and comings

I could have continued with "My Generation" as another The Who album title but didn't bother.  I should have used Quadrophenia as the title for the blog about the four rides, but forgot.  Oh well.

Angelika and Ruth were here for two days & two nights and headed back to Southern Ontario.  They provided a nice break from us for the kids.  (I truly meant From us vs For us).  New personalities help keep the kids amused.

On Friday, Kylie & Jessie and David & Vanda arrived within minutes of each other.  Cassie went crazy, of course.  Saturday afternoon, Stef & Aaron and Jeffrey & Sara arrived.  More craziness from Cassie ensued.  It rained on and off all day but somehow the kids kept amused.  We dined on sausages for dinner but were short two place settings ... Sandy miscounted !  Five couples not four + Emma and Lauren.  We managed, as always.

David and Vanda puzzled for a couple of hours re how to more efficiently move wood down to the woodbox.  Our conclusion is that we will pickup up a 20' length of culvert in town on Monday and they'll slide trailer loads of wood down beside the stairs for piling.  We'll have a blitz.  Rails + motors would mean that we wouldn't have to carry groceries or luggage anymore but that's not happening anytime soon.

In Jeffrey's packed luggage were some orders - tires (Conti 5000's), screen protectors for my phone and a new carb for the power washer.  I now have the latter installed and am anxious to try but people are sleeping and I'm not about to haul the machine up the hill.  It can wait.  The swap was easy.  I hope that it works.

I have been out for two short rides but it's brutal outrunning the deer flies.  At 15 kph they're biting; at 20kph they're chasing and drafting and occasionally landing; at 25kph I'm outrunning.  It's ok out on 522 but awful on Osprey.  Perhaps I should ride at night ?  or ... haul my bike to the parking lot at the landing and ride from there.  Jeffrey tried to go out for a run but gave up on that.  I feel sorry for the deer and moose !  No wonder we see them out on 522.  I'll have to mention the 522 option to Jeffrey.  I believe that he might be trying out the elliptical downstairs.

After all the rain yesterday, we're supposed to have a nice day today.  I expect to be pulling the tube ...

Jeffrey had been planning on heading back on Tuesday but his meeting was cancelled and Thursday is now the plan but of course that could change.  Friday I head to Manitoulin Island for my 1000k on the weekend.

Onward !
