It was a hot, sunny day with the high predicted to 84F. Sandy had things to do to prepare for dinner; Sheryl was tagging along; I had time on my hands so ... I went for a ride. Since I had to be back early but did not get out early, I kept it to 50 miles. In that 50, though, I got my exercise because it was another windy day. Mostly from the south again, the wind determined my starting direction -- south, naturally.
Windy or not, this is the kind of biking weather that I love. I could ride all day in weather like this ... and I do.
I was back around 2pm, showered, snacked and ready for guests. It was nice enough to sit out the back - not too hot yet -- and that's where we were when Bev & Bruce arrived. They joined us and not too long afterwards, I heard the doorbell and Carol & Allister joined the fray. At 5pm we did our duty -- wine, beer, whatever -- and Sandy brought out snacks. We sat outside until 6:30 and then Sandy started dinner ... I started the barbie and the pork loins were on.
Bruce checked on one of the basketball games while we all chatted inside. We ate and sat around until sometime after 9pm at which point Bruce and Bev packed up to go home. Their drive is a little over 100 miles, so it's not too bad. They didn't leave any cell phones behind (like I did at their place) so their exit was a one-and-done.
In addition to the pork loin, Sandy did asparagus, white & wild rice and afterwards, desert. She tried a new recipe from Barb Nute which was something akin to a frozen lemon mousse with fruit -- it was wonderful. Bev got a photocopy of the recipe to add to her collection. By 10 pm I faded away and for me anyway, the day was done. I have no idea how long everyone stayed up, but I suspect that Allister did not last long.
Bev invited us down to their place for Easter brunch and I expect that we'll take her up on the invitation. I think that she said that her daughter Julie and her kids would be there ... I think.
We heard from Jeffrey while the gang was here that they had finished packing (I find that amazing) and were ready for the move, which happens today.
The energy of the youn -- I have stamina, more than energy, endurance more than speed. I guess that comes with getting older. Sandy says that I'm more mellow -- and I definitely am -- but it's a strange thing too -- I have more patience for some things, and less for others. I guess that too is a symptom of age.
I'm off shortly to Mass. Today -- well, right now we have thunderstorms above us so I don't know what our schedule will be. It's supposed to be clear this afternoon, so we'll see what the group wants to do. Allister has golf planned for Monday and likely Tuesday, so boating would either be today, with Sheryl or Wednesday, without. We'll make that call later.
