Sep 2/3 - a matter of hours

Rain in the a.m., sunny and beautiful in the afternoon.  Cassie got some swimming.  David and Vanda got out in the kayaks.  I continued to cleanup my accounting work for Randonneurs Ontario and put together a financial presentation for the annual meeting and a budget for 2018.  It’s not the final fiscal year’s account because I have to do some accruals etc. but the major part was figuring out the GA expenses and tallying what I’m due, which is over 25k, to pay for hotels, food etc. etc.  My credit cards runneth over … well not really but they do love me.

I fussed around with the Mega Catch which has been a disappointment for what it cost.  It does catch mosquitoes but there are too many for it to make a realistic dent in the population.  When I checked it yesterday, the fan had stopped.  It’s regulated so that if something is caught (like in this case, a couple of large bumblebees) the “smarts” cut power to the fan.  However, even with the fan cleaned, it’s not running full speed.  However again, it’s basically a 4” computer fan so I replaced it with one from my parts bin.  Earlier in the year I replaced the “waterproof” power supply with another because the waterproofing didn’t seem to work … The supply that I’m using is on the edge, getting quite warm but still doing the job.  It’s rated at 1.75 amps and I probably need 2.  They’re cheap at Amazon and I’ve added that to my cart.  My cart is building up to what I’ll trigger once we’re on our way south.

Late afternoon Sandy got a text from Kim – yes that’s how we cottagers communicate up here – to come over to see Stan and Cathy – so we did.   They’d dropped in for a visit.  Stan doesn’t sit still for long so it was a short visit.  Lorraine was telling me how great he was as a Principal, knowing all the kids names within a few days.  I’d have failed that test.  I supported 50 riders for four days straight and still screwed up names.  I always tell people that I remember faces and I remember names, but not together.  I would forget the names of people that I worked with full time; thank goodness they had name plates on their doors – really, I’m not kidding.

David and Vanda left after dinner.  Kyle was leaving today mid-day.  It has rained all day today with the only variation being that of degree.  I’m really hoping for a good dump and I’ll move my dock into the cove for the season.

That’s about it; very boring today for Cassie compared to her normal day here.

Tomorrow we got to Burlington for Juliet’s wake.  It’s at a pub; quite fitting.  Ugh.  We’ll pickup Joyce on the way.  Sandy went through our pictures and found those of Juliet and I’ve got them on my laptop and a USB drive for Mark.  He did call; tough calls to make.  We’d already seen from Facebook and marked our calendars.  A very sorry day.

Onward.
