Aug 28-29 - Quiet Time

Should I be starting off these blogs with "Dear Diary"? I guess not, Diaries are not meant to be read by anyone other than the writer.

Dear Blog:

Sandy went into Sudbury yesterday to pick up groceries and mortar. Now that's a non-standard shopping list ! So now I'm all mortared up and ready to start the final leg in the tiling journey ...

Jason continued to get organized to leave, doing some wheel bearing work on his trailer and other cleanup. I helped him pull the boat out of the water -- the summer is effectively over. It doesn't matter that summer really runs to September 21 ... summer is over after Labour Day (Labor Day) when the kids go back to school. When we were in Florida last week the kids were already back to school -- their first week.

Almost everyone is back in school next week, including Lorraine who has been teaching close to 30 years. She is not looking forward to getting back to that grind, however, they left around 4pm headed back to Brantford and planning to pick up Mike along the way.

When I was in primary school my teachers seemed much older ... more like Men in Black -- Will Smith's teacher was actually an alien. I had Mrs. McColman (sp?) in grade 5 who was just like that ... so did Arlene and Philip (I think). Ah the memories -- not everything was the "good old days" !!

I hung doors. Exciting, no, rewarding, yes. I had hung the doors for the utility room and work room the day before but had not trimmed the inside because they were non-standard. I used the table saw to rip spacers to account for the lack of drywall in the utility room and the extra space taken up by the plywood and pegboard in the workroom. I also ripped a number of 1x6 baseboard to 1x4 for trim. As a result I think that I'll be slightly short of baseboard by the time I finish the basement, but that's another day. Armed with trim and doors, I installed the doors for the bedroom, darkroom and bathroom. All that's left are the four bi fold doors (two openings) for the bedroom closet. The doorways are already trimmed and square so these should be relatively quick.

I've put off tiling for as long as I can save today. I'll start tiling tomorrow. Today Steve Pozgaj and his wife Zora are supposed to arrive around 11 a.m. from his place in Muskoka. I have not seen Steve for almost 30 years so that should be interesting. They are only here for the day, planning on leaving around 7 p.m. He has been up here before -- my stag for my first marriage -- 1973. The place has definitely changed !!

Sandy is up early prepping food for our guests. Abby and I have already eaten breakfast. I'd better do some tidy up.
