May 16 - busy day and slow morning

I worked at the basement ceiling most of the day yesterday, getting a lot of the grid up in the main room with the pool table. That's the good news. The bad news is that I miscalculated regarding how much clearance I needed for tiles and crossers underneath the duct work and I'll have to drop everything 1/2". That shouldn't take too long, but it's annoying. I could simply leave more space there than elsewhere and the 1/2" wouldn't be noticeable ... but I'd be aware of it and would "see" it even though it would be invisible. I'm not that short of time that I need to compromise.

Jason, Lorraine, Kyle and Gavin came over after 5pm and Jason and I went over to collect Donnie, who was also joining us for dinner. Claudia and Isaac are coming up today so he was alone ... working on a plumbing problem. It appears that his foot valve is leaking ... I suggested to Jason just a little bit ago that we go over and give him a hand. His pump is in the lake and either there is a crack in the line somewhere or the valve is leaking.

Sandy did ham, scalloped potatoes etc. for dinner and Lorraine brought a rhubarb cake. We ate and ate, no, I take that back ... I ate and ate and that got me up during the night. I wasn't feeling ill, just very full. I watched part of a movie for a couple of hours then fell asleep, not waking up until 6:20 a.m. I had to rush and eat, have my coffee and head out to church in Sudbury.

Before Mass I picked up 8 more boxes of 2x4 ceiling tiles and a package of pot lights to try out. Since our ceiling is 11" below the floor joists, standard pot lights won't work without extra support below the joists so I'm trying out some that sit on the grid. If I'm not happy with the way they might look, I'll simply take them back. It's a pack of six -- I'll need one or two more packages of these before I'm done.

That's about all - it rained for a chunk of the day yesterday; today is more pleasant but cold. I actually drove through a snow flurry going through Sudbury. What happened to Spring ? The only good news is that there are no black flies when it's this cold. The fishermen, and there are many, would like today better than yesterday, yesterday being opening day for pickerel and pike (walleye for Americans).

I'll be back at the ceiling shortly.
