Before I get to the activities of the day, I got a chuckle out of the description of the jersey for the Granite Anvil 1200 ride coming up in August:
Pro fit is an anatomic pattern designed to fit men and women who are very serious about their biking and their body type reflects this biking mileage.
I'm sure that the "medium" of this jersey will be similar to the medium for the Shenandoah 1200 -- fits perfectly.
Anyway, reading that prompted me to start the blog for the day, otherwise I'd have forgotten about that little tidbit.
Sandy headed over to give blood and after she was back I changed the oil in the X5 and tried to change the light bulb in the brake lights but found that a) a backup light also needed replacing; b) the light that supposedly was the correct light, wasn't; c) the brake light didn't need changing, its contacts were a little corroded. That has now been fixed.
While she was out I uploaded pictures from my camera to "recent", so that's now up-to-date. Kylie was the "official" photographer at Lauren's baptism and took some good pictures. From the pictures, though, it appears that we did not attend. Oh well. I guess that my camera went without me for a change.
After lunch we went for a drive to Port Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. It's a long way out there -- from the mainland there is a causeway to Merritt Island and then another causeway to the barrier island. On the way back we first went south to Palm Shores, a blip on U.S 1 that is 100 km south of here and becomes the turnaround point for another Permanent that I've got registered. There's a Shell station / convenience store right after highway 404 that is the only logical Control. That was my mission today -- to find a suitable Control -- and I accomplished it, with some sightseeing along the way.
Once home we watched some Stargate SG1 and then went over to the SYC for dinner. I think that they have the best burgers in town. Yes, I had a burger. No, it wasn't a fish burger. It's gotten so that people either think that I'm a vegitarian or that I simply don't eat red meat. Nope. Love red meat. I feel quite full and will feel quite full all night, thank you very much ... that's the only problem with a huge burger, filled with sauteed onions, mushrooms, jalapenos, ooh ooh ooh it was good.
During dinner I think that I lost as much weight as I gained. No-see-ums were everywhere. There was a bottle of Deep Woods Off that was being passed around, but I think that it attracted the flies because it didn't get any better. My legs were on fire from the bites. I know that they'll be with me for a few days now ... nuts. I had a hot shower as soon as I got home, which helps somewhat, and then applied aloe, which also helps.
Tomorrow there's packing to do, but I've already organized some of my stuff to go, in particular the two biking bags and the bike itself. I cleaned the bike before I changed the oil, thus doing double duty with a new rag, then bagged up the wheels and put on the chain condom. Yes, I bought a chain condom. It's a velcro thing that goes over the chainrings and chain and rear derailleur -- chain condom -- I wonder who thought up that name ? Hopefully it stays closed and keeps everything else clean -- that's its role in life.
Sandy's watching Benjamin Button as I sit at the computer. He's getting younger. I don't have any interest and besides, if I sit down to watch it I'll fall asleep.
I'll finish this in the a.m.
---------
Ok, it's the a.m. and I almost forgot to get back to this.
We don't have a busy day planned ... Abby to the beach; pack; Mass late afternoon; dinner at the sushi place ... and tomorrow's drive is the shorter of the two days so we won't be leaving until around 6am or so.
I expect that Sandy will do some housecleaning -- she likes to leave the place looking good.
That's it ...
