Jul 21 - suddenly it came to me

I'll get to that.

I went fishing in the a.m.; didn't have any luck. On the way there, putting down the lake, I saw Jim waving at me from his dock. I cruised over and found Jim and Bonnie out having their a.m. coffee. They were very talkative -- I was there for close to 1/2 hour. There was only one otter that morning -- however, later sitting with Jason & Lorraine in front of their place we could see the 4-otter family crossing the lake. It was one of those amazing coincidences -- I'd only started talking about the otters when Jason spied them crossing.

Back from fishing, I went inside to find Sandy making coffee. I mixed up some of my chicken soup and we headed over to the Davies.

It was a beautiful day and, planning on a boat ride, I launched the Bayliner from the boathouse. Later, much later -- 11:30 a.m. I think it was -- the girls were up and having their breakfast/lunch. I'd already had my lunch :). We got organized to go for a boat ride.

Down to the Dollars Dam and then over to Lost Channel for ice cream, the five of us went -- me, Sandy, Kylie, Kat & Abby. Abby got the bottom end of two ice cream cones as her treat. Back home after that cruise, I decided to launch the little boat -- the 9.9 -- and that's when it came to me ...

Yes, it came to me. As I pushed the boat down the ramp it came to me ... the winch handle that is. Smack in the forehead, blood coming down my face and dripping off my nose. Great. What an idiot. In the house, I cleaned it up and applied some ice for a short while. I thought that it was really going to swell up but it didn't. It's not deep enough for any stitches and besides, stitches would probably make more of a scar than this will anyway ... it will contribute to my rugged appearance ... ha. Too bad that it didn't bash out my front teeth and really make me look like an idiot.

Marda Schrop gashed her leg the other day which required stitches and I joked that it ended her days on the runway. It serves me right -- but at least she had an excuse -- the dog & the cat and a glass of wine. I was just an idiot. No excuse.

So ... this morning I'm feeling kind of crabby, or make that scabby. It's not in a position where it's even easy to put a couple of large band-aids that are flesh coloured ... no, that wouldn't make it any better.

I'm also feeling kind of dim -- but that's because my monitor is losing colour as I type. The bar at the top which usually shoes a kind of orangey reddish is now green. I'm afraid that this monitor is on the way out. I may have to switch for the little monitor that I have on the side table. I just turned if off and on a couple of times and it made no difference. I guess that I cannot use this monitor to review photos -- it makes everyone look like Martians !

After I did my forehead job -- whoa -- the colour just came back -- I took the girls for a long tubing run. They had a blast on the Davies' big tubes. I swung by Matthews' where everyone was out on the dock to see if anyone there wanted to go -- yes, Lauren and Mark -- so we got the small tubes and they went for a spin. Next Kylie and Kat went again on the small tubes. This is what summer is all about.

After tubing, Sandy and I went back down there and had a glass of wine / beer. Pam and Pauline were feeding their kids while Jim & Bonnie & Sally (Jim's sister) were sitting outside. Bonnie was looking incredibly relaxed -- perhaps because she was outside away from all the commotion !

Pauline leaves today -- off to Toronto to visit with some friends from college, and then leaves Saturday for the U.K. Pam is here for another couple of days and then Bonnie heads down with her to retrieve her car that Pauline is driving. Jim leaves this afternoon for 24 hours to do some guiding at Tornadoes for 20+ Swiss Boy Scouts -- who apparently cannot speak any English -- but I'm sure that they can speak some, if not fluently. They're on a canoe trip and will end up in Smokey Lake where Tornadoes fishing camp -- not their main location -- is based.

The sun is/was up. A few minutes ago it rose and bathed the chairs on the point in a reddish glow. Now it has risen into the cloud cover. We are supposed to get rain this afternoon. I should probably get out early for a bike ride. I hope that the helmet doesn't ride as far down as my forehead scabs ... no, probably not, they're just over my eyebrows.

We had catfish and large mouth bass for dinner last night. The catfish was good; the bass was excellent ! I need to catch more of those !

Perhaps I'll go fishing in a few minutes. I still need to catch at least one non-ice-fishing pike. Sandy is going into town twice today -- once with the girls this a.m. to the Wednesday morning market, then this afternoon to the Masseuse. Apparently Jason has booked three appointments with her too -- and she gets really booked up.

Enough for now.
