Jul 29 - a bit rocky

... I'll come to that later.

Well, taking things in order, I set my minnow traps and went fishing. I did catch a nice sized small mouth bass. I also missed a couple of larger ones that dropped the hook before I could get them into the boat. True to form, the ones lost are always the biggest :).

I was back after 9:30 so Jason had already left for Loring. Trusting that he'd read my blog ... and he did ... I figured that I'd have my 1x4's later in the day. I figured wrong. We kidded about that later in the day -- yes, he'd read my blog but had obviously skimmed through it because he missed my TimbrMart order. Oh well, I have to go into town this morning so I'll pick them up at that point.

Sandy had not left for Sudbury by the time that I got back but left a few minutes later. She and Kylie were back after 4pm -- after I got back from biking -- with a car full of groceries. I understand that Costco is now empty ... and we single-handedly goosed the Sudbury economy, or at least the food sales economy.

I did get out for my bike ride, heading out around 11am and returning around 4pm. I showered, helped unload the car, then went to my minnow traps to collect my haul. Mike Davies came over later and identified the multiple species of minnow -- I'm now an educated fisherman ! One in particular he took away with him -- a stickleback -- apparently a close relative of the seahorse.

I was commenting to Jason how there didn't seem to be the number of rock bass in the lake as when we were kids. They were everywhere. The lake is getting weedier and we have more small and large mouth bass, more pike, fewer pickerel and rock bass. I had to eat my words, if not the rock bass later that evening. After dinner -- shrimp from Tarinis -- I went fishing and caught 9 rock bass. Naturally I let them all go -- we've always let them go -- and then once back went over to Jason's to eat my words. Gavin googled "rock bass edible" while I was there and one fishing site said that "rock bass are fun to catch and good to eat" -- I'm not surprised by the "eat" part. If other bass are good eating, why not rockies ? I suppose that we've always thrown them back due to their small size, but they are about the same size as the medium crappies that I've been catching -- next time I'll bring some back and do some cleaning.

That was mostly the day. I did move some stuff from the basement up to the barn along the way to clear space in the games room. I've got a couple more things to do ... and I'd like to finish trimming those windows. In the meantime, however, it's time to go fishing. Once back, I'll go into town for those 1x4's and mail. The post office opens at 10:15, so I'll aim my trip accordingly.

Sandy did some cooking yesterday -- meat and non-meat spaghetti sauce. I told her that she should be talking to Jill next door -- she's a vegetarian. We have Kylie, who only eats chicken and fish and Olivia, who also eats chicken ... but I don't think fish ... but of course Olivia will be gone by the time that we have the spaghetti so I'm not sure what the fuss is all about. A bottle of sauce would have done nicely for Kylie :). Actually ... the vegetarian sauce looked much more interesting than the "regular" sauce. Oh ... I'm not sure if Arlene eats meat sauce. Ah well, it's better to be a human garbage can like me.

The sun is out ... the fish must be biting ... away we go (me and Abby).
