Jul 1 - no bears

That's a good thing. Last night I put the bird feeder in the shed to remove the last possible thing of interest for our black friend. I put it out again this morning. Hopefully that will be the last of him ! (her ?).

I went over to the minnow trap off 522 and picked up 2-3 dozen minnows including a bunch of catfish, one about six inches long. Initially I left him in the minnow container as well, but when I saw a minnow head floating later, I decided that I should let that one go since it would decimate my minnow stocks. I put the trap back into the pond ... I'll check it again this morning.

I went fishing in the afternoon and caught a small bass. Since it wasn't big enough for dinner by itself and since it was the only one, I let it go. I would have needed 3-4 of that size to feed the two of us. Tonight I'll go out after crappie ... as long as it's not raining.

Rain, rain, rain ... it was always out there, fell on us a few times yesterday, so I actually used the trainer. A half-hour on the trainer isn't much though ... perhaps I'll try again today to get out for a real ride, although they're calling for rain again.

In the a.m. yesterday I spent some time juggling trailers in the barn, getting Jason's boat out front. With the trailers out of the way, I moved the Muskoka chairs down to the waterfront. Gavin cleaned up their boat in the afternoon and we launched the two boats -- Jason's and the Bayliner -- late in the day. Naturally I put the Bayliner into the boathouse, so we're back in business. When we get a nice day we'll go for a boat ride, but so far this spring and summer have been cool, other than a brief respite -- I take back any complaining about the heat !

We went over to the Davies' place a little after six p.m., had a drink, chatted, then came back home a little before 8 for dinner. Sandy had already done some prep so that within about 15 minutes we were eating. Steak this time, with asparagus, sauteed mushrooms and potatoes on the barbie, and we were full again. I think that I'm still full ... or maybe that was the bowl of cereal ? whatever.

That's about it. Jason heads back to Brantford late today and they'll be back up next Tuesday, or at least that's the plan. It's dead calm out there now - probably time for the rain to start.
