Two days done; one more to go. We're having a great time.
Kim had her lesson in the morning and then skied with Sandy in the afternoon, taking the chairlift up once and going down a green run. There are two chairlifts at the base -- one a detachable quad that goes to the top of the mountain -- well, not really the top, per se, but the top of the skiable terrain. The other quad runs nearly as fast but is not detachable and goes half-way up the mountain. From there you can connect to other chairs or ski down -- as Sandy and Kim did. Kim had a blast, growing in confidence with time on the skis.
Megan is not as confident yet. She went up the t-bar with the instructor but then didn't want to go up any more. She went back to the magic carpet area for part of the afternoon and then Sandy and Kim pulled her out a little early and she did the t-bar again. By this time she'd gained confidence and the joke was that the "ripped it". Today she'll be back with the instructor again on the t-bar. Hopefully she'll do some more ripping, or, as we were joking -- tearing and shredding ! I'd like to get her off the t-bar by the end of the day and up the quad to go down the green run. We'll see.
We left the motel around 8:10 ... now wait, I'd forgotten my ski pass (changed coats) and we went back. Thankfully we had gone less than a mile. We left the motel again, got to the hill without any further incidents, unloaded Sandy, Kim & Megan, then David and I went to the parking lot to get ready. My new boots went on much easier than the old but it took some skiing to get them adjusted to my liking. They did work well though. I remained conscious of the feel of the boots throughout the day but there were no pressure points. The first trip down the glade I was quite sloppy ... later on I was only my normal sloppy self :). I can get down most anything but I'm not pretty to look at when it comes to moguls.
The three of us (Sandy, David and I) did a couple of cruising runs and then headed into the mid-mountain chalet to warm up. The snow is hard pack, and it will be colder today and the snow will be even harder. We talked to a couple of people over the course of the day. Apparently, according to one, Marmot has more snow now than it received all of last year. Last year was not kind to many ski resorts. Marmot hasn't had much fresh snow in a while though, and it's showing. It's not icy ... but it's hard. We talked to another who had skied Revelstoke and they raved about it. That should be good ... but it to has not had much snow since early December -- but skier traffic will be more spread out than Marmot. I'm keeping my fingers crossed -- but it has much more terrain and is probably in better shape than Marmot.
Kim and Megan walked into town and did some shopping; David joined us in our room around 6:10 and the three of us went to the grocery store. A couple of blocks further and we went to the Korean restaurant, meeting up with Kim and Megan. We had a great meal, ordering the "dinner for four" plus one more entre. Said dinner consisted of a beef & veggie dish; a chicken & veggie dish, rice, wonton soup and perhaps something else -- I forget. The additional dish was seafood, so we had all food groups covered. We chatted and laughed all through dinner.
The day was done, slightly earlier than the day before. Today ... more of the same.
Onward !
