Sometimes I pay too much attention to the doppler radar. Yesterday was one of those days. All morning and part of the afternoon there was rain all around us. We didn't go boating. I didn't go Harley'ing. I "took a chance" and went for a walk with Abby mid-morning. It didn't rain until after 2pm.
So much for what I didn't do ... missed opportunities. Today it's cold. It's windy. The ocean is wavy like crazy. I'll probably go for a bicycle ride later this morning but it's going to be a real workout with winds in the 15-20mph range from the north. I should sail back, but perhaps I'll be too tired by then to enjoy it ... it happens.
I did do some more mangrove trimming, getting the ladder down into the swamp and climbing up faster than the ladder's feet were sinking into the mud. Gently, gently ... there were a couple of thick pieces that I wanted to cut with my little saw, too fat for the pruner.
Buzzing around in Facebook occupied the middle part of my day, finding people, exchanging messages. I may tire of this soon because I don't intend to put much in, preferring the one-way recording of events in my blog and the searchable and saveable aspects of email. It is funny to see who actually uses it -- Jerry Christensen got on yesterday; I'm still waiting for Ken Mercurio; there's a Ched Miller out there, but not my friend Ched (unusual name, Ched); I found Donna Dorschner, a high-school friend; Nina Zaychuk uses Facebook, as does Bill Nelson -- but not Alex; George and Geri are out there along with many former team-mates from Towers Perrin; I exchanged notes with Fred Berg and Phil Burfitt ... haven't been able to get hold of Phil although we do exchange Christmas cards (Sandy's and Maria's department) ... anyway, it's interesting. Our kids are all on, each with their own accounts ... but I'll probably "hide" some "friends" over time rather than have all this extraneous stuff hit my Facebook "wall" at random.
After Sandy had lunch, since I'd had mine two hours earlier, we went to the wine shop and stocked up on some wine that we'd tasted and was passable. With Peter's Wine Shop and the Wine Warehouse, if you don't buy it right away, there won't be stock later. I am now set for a while. After that we went over to Staples & Bed, Bath & Beyond over on International Speedway Blvd -- in the pouring rain, I might add. I bought a few small things at Staples and we browsed at BB&B -- Sandy's going to go back and pick up a couple of items that we want but we didn't have any of her 20% off coupons with us. We then picked up fish for yesterday and today -- grouper (had last night) and Lane Snapper.
The weather for the upcoming week looks pretty mixed with cool temperatures and threat of rain most days. We have to squeeze in a boat ride sometime but it's not very inviting when it's cool. We're pretty spoiled. Up north if it was 57F I would consider it perfect for fishing; down here, because of the hurdle involved in just getting out there, we don't go. Besides ... I didn't bring my ski jacket to Florida !
I did catch up with Wayne Guymon yesterday, to see how Doris is doing. She was snoozing at the time and we spent our time talking about his dead computer. By the sounds of things she's doing better with this third round of chemo than with the last -- I think that's probably due to the fact that she knows more what to expect; Wayne figures that it's fewer drugs; whatever the reason we're hoping for the best.
I guess that's it for now.
Onward !
