Feb 3 - global temperature averaging

I find it hard to believe in global warming, frankly. It seems that the warm places are cooler and the cold places are ... well ... cold. Perhaps the very cold places -- antarctic and arctic -- are warmer, but it ain't here !

Granted that it's warmer here than up north. Granted that I can go for a bike ride here and could not up north. I give you all those things ... but it's still cooler here than I'd expect. Normally, if our few winters down here are any indication, I would expect high 40's / low 50's overnight, then up into the high 60's / low 70's during the day. I would wait and go biking around 11am and would be in a short-sleeved jersey. Yesterday I went out with short and long sleeved jersey and light jacket. At the mid-way point I took off the jacket. I was never really warm.

That said, it was warmer yesterday than the day before. My feet were cold, but not numb. I should invest in some winter biking shoes, perhaps.

Yesterday was my first day on the Grand Bois tires. They are wonderful. Easy rolling and road absorbing, they are a great ride. However, they absorbed too much of the road. A couple of miles before getting home they "absorbed" a nail. It's obviously too early to tell if they are prone to flats, especially since my previous ride on the armadillos also had a flat, but it worries me just the same. At any rate, my normal riding around here will be on the armadillos, saving the GB's for brevets.

I went biking after painting. I opted to put a first rolled coat on the walls and then realized that I could not do the trimming at the ceiling because I couldn't lean the extension ladder on the fresh paint. The paint was dry, can be recoated in an hour, but I don't think that it would be rub-proof. I'll see shortly if it's rub-proof in 24 hours, because I'm about to get in there and trim the ceiling. So ... given that the recoat time is an hour, I went ahead and recoated. I did some down-low reachable trimming and called it a day, from a painting standpoint.

The bottom line is that the room is almost done. After finishing the painting I have to attach the baseboard, plug those holes and then I'll be done. Wait ... no ... I have a couple of spots to touch up with the trim paint and then I'll be done.

Sandy took the day off from the club. She'll be going back this morning. I think that she's trying to follow a Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri schedule. Tomorrow she'll meet with that trainer, since the trainer doesn't go to the club on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

Sandy picked up Salmon for dinner. Add baked wedge fries and green beans and we ate well yet again.

I hope to ride again today then take tomorrow off. It's supposed to be a few degrees warmer, perhaps hitting 70F, but I'll believe that only in hindsight.

Onward ... upward (on the ladder) ...
