Feb 5 - what did I do ?

All I can think of right now is what's coming up, not what I did yesterday. Today, already, the wind is blowing like a banshee, whatever a banshee is. 22mph is our treat for the day, from the west. At least we head north and then west, first. Then east and south, but it will be impossible to escape from the wind.

Ok ... yesterday ... I remember ... I waited. Then I waited. Then, finally before noon the guys came to replace the two Anderson windows that we'd ordered in the fall and were already paid for. They called at 8:45 to say that they'd be here sometime between 8 and 11 ... huh ? what ?

Sandy got home from the gym and her session with the personal trainer as the guys were wrapping up. She was beat. No pain, no gain, I told her. This is the first time that she's come home sore. Progress !

I went out on the Harley, tripping down to Merritt Island, past the guardhouse, across the bridge to Titusville and back home. The road was not closed. Will it be closed today ? I don't know. I stayed dry although I was worried that I wouldn't beat the rain back home. A little later, amidst tornado warnings, it went black, the palms blew like crazy out the back and it dumped. Now it's just windy. Then it looked like the palms were going to be flattened.

Abby doesn't understand that it's still night. She wants breakfast. My stomach doesn't understand ... what's this coffee and cereal that you're subjecting me to, it asks ? Did I miss something ? Are we in the U.K. ?

It's now 2:08. It's a 1.5 hour drive to the ride start at 5am. Of course I have to leave a little extra time and I have to check in once there, so all in all I anticipate leaving a little before 3am. The 400k brevet on March 6th is about the same distance away and also starts at 5am. The 600k brevet on April 17th starts at 4am ... but we'll be flying in from Aruba sometime after 11pm the night before ... ooohhh, that'll be fun. Perhaps I should find a 600k somewhere else ... I was originally thinking that I'd go to a hotel room close to the ride, but realistically there wouldn't be much time to do much other than change and eat, catch a nap in the hotel lobby. I'm already regretting this "plan".

The olympics start in 7 days. We get Canadian coverage down here so it should be fun to watch. I may or may not catch the opening ceremonies depending on whether or not I do the Bike Sebring thing. I was looking at last year's results and it looks like there are 11.something mile laps and 3.something mile laps. The top finisher in his age group and overall did 490 miles in 24 hours. That's averaging a little over 20 mph, consistently, all stops included, for 24 hours. That's without drafting. Tour de France pros couldn't do that. I don't care if the ride is flat, it's still amazing. Oh, and by the way, he is my age !! Yikes !! I guess that you have to hit a certain age to be really demented !!

I'm just whiling away the time here ... time to do a last check on the weather, the doppler etc. and get dressed.

Onward ... I guess.
