Jul 21 - hot !

Wow. 93 in Fl; 90 here. Time for a bike ride, right ?

Had this been one of my brevets, I'd have stopped a couple of times to do a core cool-down with an icy drink. Since this wasn't and there aren't convenience stores a-plenty, it was drink warm water and survive to the end. 70 miles later I got into my car, drove home, took off my cycling shoes and socks and jumped in the lake. Did that ever feel good ! Abby joined me of course. 82F (or something like that) at the surface and a little cooler lower down, I could have lingered in there for a long time.

I did stop on 69 to repair a flat. I had a cut in the center of my rear tire and booted it with one of my gel wrappers. I didn't even bother trying to ride or inflate without the boot. These tires don't owe me anything -- I was wondering how much longer I'd get out of the Schwalbes that probably have 4000km/2500 miles on them at this point ! I put them on just before I did the 300/400/600 series, they survived the Shen 1200 and a 200 and multiple 70 mile rides. I'm impressed. I could probably get more mileage out of the front tire -- I'll look at that before going out again, which will probably be tomorrow at this point.

The A/C, our efficient A/C, sized for maintenance and not temperature change, worked all day and dropped the upstairs inside temperature by only 1F ... the basement temp by 7F. I did some adjusting of the vents and it shut down overnight, having achieved the 75F setting, partly assisted by the cooler air outside, no doubt. If we had to use the A/C more than a few days per year I'd look into re-sizing the unit.

Otherwise, not much happened. Sandy and Kylie did some things around the house; we had a drink with Jason and Lorraine after Kyle and Kim left at 6pm, headed south. It looks like we'll have a semi-quiet weekend with Stef arriving for a couple of days on Sunday and Jason and Lorraine off visiting some friends in the Kawarthas. David and Kim are not sure of their travel plans yet but Kim does intend to get Megan up here for part, if not all, of the week. Kim will know better after today what her work schedule will be next week. She was originally taking the time off but there are major contracts with activity that she has to tend to next week.

George and Geri are supposed to arrive on Monday and will be here most of the week. I have a bike ride next weekend ... that's about as far as we can say with certainty.

Onward !
