Early Saturday morning, gathered at Queens Park, ready to go.

Early Sunday morning, meeting Stephen who is on his way back from Ottawa, a good eight hours ahead of me.

Sort of cooling off in Rice Lake, the water is very warm and murky but felt good on the feet !

Always happy at the end -- back at Queens Park with Renato.

As I look back at these pictures, I'm reminded that it's the shared (and oddball) experiences that stick in your memory. That's the great thing about these rides -- pain is a solitary experience -- head pounding, sun beating down, cramped legs -- and those memories fade quickly.
I'm looking forward to Paris ... and the aftermath ...
------
I was doing a little planning for the aftermath, looking at maps and thinking about where we might visit, the driving distances, since I want to make the two-week period calm vs frenetic ... the driving country roads vs autoroute. There will inevitably be some rushing, especially at the end getting back to CDG airport ...

It rained yesterday, clearing in the afternoon. With the siding still damp, I couldn't paint, so I busied myself with other activities.
There were a couple of pieces of siding that needed caulking because they were so warped that they'd left space for water intrusion, so I decided to simply replace those. One was under the bedroom windows and another over the master bedroom slider. It was easier than I expected so I guess that I'll continue to save that huge pile of siding up in the barn. It will come in useful !
While I was at that, I caulked a couple of places, but the tube of caulking was so old that I only had a big fat nozzle, which isn't good for quality work. I'll have to buy some more caulking -- perhaps they stock it in town or can get it for me.
Abby had been content to sit at the top of the driveway and watch me walk up and down the hill as I cut siding but as soon as she heard Jason et al in the water, she bounded down and joined them for a swim. Will Sheryl let her swim in their pool while we're in Europe ? That leaves a lot of hair in the skimmer ! We are going to miss Abby while we're away.
David decided to postpone his trip up, worried about the closing for the business. I don't know if anything is actually happening or if he just wants to be available, we didn't talk live.
Jason is still working at the top of his stairs, waiting for his car to be repaired in Sudbury. It's supposed to be ready tomorrow at which point he'll head back to Brantford. He has an operation on his hand coming up in the next week, after which he'll return just before we leave for France.
We were FAPPED yesterday, well actually we were FAPPED late the night before. I talked to Xplornet and they showed me how to access a report that shows volume by hour. This is a report that used to work for me with our old modem, a couple of years ago, then stopped working when the modem was upgraded. Jason, Gavin and I were talking last evening and we have not been able to figure out where the volume came from -- my pc was dead but my laptop was on and open -- I'm guessing that my MAC did an update and didn't tell me. I'll have to see if there's a parameter that can be switched off so that any downloads are prompted. I'm betting that right now it downloads and then prompts for application ...
This whole satellite internet thing is a pain. I'll be happy when we have wireless ... if that ever happens.
Well ... yesterday was about recovery and today is about painting. It was cool and damp this morning, so I'll have to give it another hour or so before getting out and starting to apply stain but I can get organized. When the real heat of the day hits I have to move out of that area because it's too hot for the stain to be applied, so I'm not sure if I'll actually finish any one area vs bopping around. We'll see.
Tomorrow will be broken up because I have the Roads Board meeting in town at 10am. I'll be lucky to get anything done. I need to get back on the bike too ... yikes !
Onward !
