I could have come up with other titles, but the most pressing is that the internet is down again. With a signal strength of 17, this blog isn't going anywhere ! I'm coming to the conclusion that there must be something wrong with the equipment, perhaps moisture getting into the receive/transmit head or something. At any rate, I'll be happy to upgrade asap in the Spring.
However, rolling the clock back to yesterday, the 4th, which is what this blog is supposed to cover ...
It was cold. -11F is cold. I've certainly experienced colder but at some point it's hard to notice the difference.
The car notices the difference. It wouldn't be happy starting in -11F weather. It, the X5, was in the barn and the car thermometer read 10F when I started it up. It quickly dropped to -11F as I was driving along Osprey Road. That was the first trip, following Jeffrey. I knew that I was at least 5 minutes behind them but wanted to make sure that they made it the entire way and weren't stuck somewhere looking for help. The road was clear.
About an hour later I made another trip, this time with Megan and Lauren, going into Loring. We needed a number of grocery items and the girls picked out a snack. They were on a mission.
A little after lunch, Kylie's friend Michael arrived from Sudbury. We never saw his Mom, who waited at the top of the driveway for him to come back up to tell her that he was at the correct house. She'll pick him up today. I'd relayed a message via Kylie that unless they had four wheel drive and snow tires, don't come down the drive. They did have snows and I'm sure that they'd have been ok, but it really wasn't worth finding out. Kylie met Michael at a friend's cottage in the area and they've kept in touch. He's a boy ... friend ... not a boyfriend :) ... but then again, I'm not sure.
The kids played outside -- Kylie and Michael on the ice rink, Lauren and Megan with the sleds. It was too cold to pull them with the 4-wheeler. At that temperature they could get frostbite cruising along. They were outside for a long time though since it was sunny and pleasant enough if you kept busy.
Later Kylie and Michael went for a walk along the bush trail where Jeffrey and Sara had been on the 4-wheeler.
I kept busy as well, clearing the rink after Kylie and Michael were finished, then flooding it. Unfortunately there's this big ridge across the middle where Jeffrey drove the 4-wheeler ... but that's not the only uneven spot. We really need a Zamboni !
Kylie and Michael helped and I used the leaf blower to get most of the fine stuff off the surface. It flooded much easier, much smoother, that way. I'll see what it's like this a.m.
The kids have today and tomorrow to play then we'll leave Friday morning for Oakville and Barrie, in that order. We'll be back here that evening.
Jason called yesterday and they might come up, which would be fun. We'll be leaving on Tuesday morning for Toronto, Oakville and parts south, but we don't have much to do or pack before then. It will only take me a couple of hours to swap tires and load the few things that we're bringing with us.
Our plan is as follows -- leave early Tuesday; Sandy's hair appointment at noon; dentist appointments in Oakville at 4pm; night in Erie PA; next night in Orangeburg SC along I26; then home to NSB. We'll arrive in NSB early afternoon on Thursday, if all goes well.
The signal strength is still 17. I'm going to go and throw a bucket of hot water on the dish, in case it has a build-up of ice, but I don't think that's the problem.
Onward ?
