Apr 13 - passing

Unlucky for some, perhaps, the 13th claimed my Uncle Phil. I heard late afternoon that he'd passed away via email from Christine to all and sundry.

Anne had told me early in the week that he wasn't expected to last the week. That prediction proved to be true. Prostate cancer has claimed another victim.

We had originally planned on going to Epcot today, Saturday, but now I'm heading to Toronto via Buffalo -- actually via Niagara Falls. I'll be returning on Wednesday. Sandy will be staying here with Sheryl and Jimmy.

Flights proved to be in short supply, or at least flights that would get me into Toronto in time for Sunday afternoon's viewing. I had expected to be able to fly out that morning. I finally found something but it was very expensive. Sheryl found one into Niagara Falls, which seemed good so I booked it ... and then ran into the unexpected -- couldn't get a car rental. All the rental agencies close at noon in Buffalo and Niagara Falls, it seems, except for the ones at Buffalo International Airport -- strange but true.

So now I have a reservation with a service to pick me up at IAG (Niagara Falls) to take me to BUF, which of course is the opposite direction to where I really want to travel. I expect that by the time I get to Stef's, it will be close to 7pm. I've opted to stay with David in Barrie because that will be closer to the funeral etc.

After the funeral on Monday, I'll head to the cottage for Monday and Tuesday night. I'm sure that I'll find something to do for a day.

Onward.
