Feb 21 - I'm # 67

My International Super Randonneur award arrived yesterday from Richard Phipps in the UK !   I'm number 67 on the list, world-wide.  Make that 67 crazies !

Most of the people on the list have a "1200" designation, i.e. they've ridden 1200's in four countries.  Some have "600", meaning that they did a series -- 200, 300, 400, 600 -- each in a different country.

Randonneurs can collect this award more than once.  Mark Thomas is on the list 4 times so there are fewer than 67 people on the list but the award has been awarded 67 times, if you know what I mean.  It seems to me that it would be relatively easy for a European to collect this award by riding a series in four different countries -- almost like riding in four different States in the U.S.  It would be harder to ride in four different provinces in Canada !

... and the other big news is ...

I don't want to get too worked up but the Saxon closing is set for 9am March 1.  I'll knock on wood for the entire week if that's what it takes !

We had dinner with Harris and Debbie last night, pizza that was supposed to be shared with one of their "warm showers" riders.  However, he texted from about 20 miles south of here that he wasn't going to make it -- legs sore.  It was his first day riding, starting out from Melbourne FL south of us and heading north.  He clearly overestimated how much progress he could make in a day, or at least the first day.  It's their first no-show.

H&D said that the buyers of our Saxon home are formidable riders in the community, triathlons etc.  Interesting coincidence.

We went over to their house at 6pm and sat outside on their deck and chatted, moved inside and ate pizza and chatted.  They're an interesting, and fun, pair.

I had my session with John first thing yesterday and we worked on legs.  You'd think that my legs could take anything, but try frog-hopping for any distance and you'll feel the burn !  After 45 minutes of squats with weights, squats on the bosu-ball with weights, frog hopping, step-ups to a bench, short sprints etc. etc. I'd worked up quite a sweat.  However, I guess that it's a testament to my cycling that I didn't even notice any strain when I later went out and did my Flagler Beach circuit.  Perhaps it slowed me down but there was no soreness.

My focus was on my feet ... I had moved the metatarsal arch pad a little forward on the left foot but it's still not quite right.  I won't take a chance on Saturday since I could well DNF if it bothered my foot too much.  I guess that it's time that I got a professional fitting.

Today ... get ready for tomorrow's ride; do some more work on the floor up here, perhaps finish up mating to the carpet; perhaps pick up some wood to start my desk extension; take another look at my taxes (did some more on that yesterday, it's depressing), do my shoulder exercises like a good boy ...
