We had a typical day on the water -- warm, sunny, breezy -- for this time of year. The ICW temperature was 73 at first, more like 69 at the inlet. Over the next days, as the lagoon warms even more, there will be a compounding effect on the perceived temperature. That's why it suddenly gets very warm here.
It was rough in the inlet but we made it out without getting wet. Once out, it wasn't too rough but we weren't going for a long cruise. Straight out, we could see a dolphin's dorsal fin by one of the buoys and we headed there, spending quite some time in the midst of a huge pod. It definitely was D-Day ! That pod entertained us, surfacing all around us.
Later on, as we headed back, one dolphin really put on a show coming completely out of the water twice and landing on its backside. Oh, if I'd only been holding the camera ...
We ate at Down the Hatch for a change. They've really trimmed their menu with only one non-fish item for lunch. The mahi-mahi sandwich was good but we probably won't go back for a while. I think that it's time that we went for a longer cruise -- perhaps we'll get up to Caribbean Jack's before we head north.
After boating we went to the Haynes Brothers furniture store in Daytona and ordered another dresser to our bedroom set. I'd been back and forth with the manufacturer who had sent me color chips and we weren't sure of the color of our existing set. This store has just started carrying the line and we were able to at least eliminate one of the two color choices. We're crossing our fingers that a) the color is the same or close enough and b) that the dresser will come in before we leave. If not, we'll have to make arrangements for delivery.
Speaking of which, it looks like the latest that we could leave for the cottage is May 16, arriving on the 17th. That's not ideal, because David, Kim and Megan will probably be coming up that weekend. Sandy will want to get into Sudbury to grocery shop, so arriving on Friday wouldn't be the best. If the dresser will arrive in the store that week, we'll probably try to make that date; if not, we'd probably want to arrive up north on Wednesday the 15th, at the latest.
Today ... haven't checked the weather yet for tomorrow, but I'll be making a decision soon as to whether I'll head up to Dawsonville. Secondarily, I'll decide whether to take the X5 or M5. Decisions, decisions !
Today ... Jim Brendel comes over at 9am to go over final numbers and plans for the stairway work.
Today ... have to pick up my prescription for annual lab tests and a urine sample bottle at the hospital.
Then ... if I'm going, I'll leave around noon for Georgia.
Onward !
