May 18 - success all around

I forgot to mention that while I was working on extricating the alternator the day before, the washing machine died.  Sigh.  I'd bought new brushes for it, mailed from the UK some time ago, but they didn't quite fit.  I had to remove the brushes from their holder and use the bench grinder on them to fit them into the existing plastic holder.  It's running again.

I did go for a bike ride, leaving around 11am. It was a beautiful day and a good ride but my legs were complaining because of all the squatting that I did working on the brakes.  That was to be expected.

While I was out, David finished off the first row of wood in the woodbox.  We'll move some more today, weather permitting (it's raining now).

Sandy had a successful trip to Sudbury, coming home with pickerel (walleye) for dinner as well as fiddleheads which we'll be having tonight.  It was an all-grill dinner as I did rice in foil along with asparagus.

Before dinner, Sandy and I went over to the Davies briefly, drink in hand, and sat and chatted with the gang inside.

David and I went fishing, bringing home a few crappie and ... and ... a nice pickerel !  It's the first one that I've caught in a couple of years.  We now have a meal of pickerel and another meal + of crappie in the fridge.  We were losing lots of minnows.  David was having great luck with crappie at his line but since the minnows were huge (won't buy "medium again), he was losing many.  That's ok -- as I said to him, if I can bring home a couple of meals of fish for $10, I'm way, way ahead of the game.

At the end of our stay on the water the blackflies and mosquitoes were out in hordes.   I was happy that I hadn't brought Abby.

Today ... tackle that alternator, pile some more wood, go to 10:30 Mass.

Onward !
