May 20 - how do I do it ?

The way that I felt yesterday just getting through a little more than 100k has me wondering how I ever do a 1200+ km ride.  It was basically a grind.

The wind was from the NE so I headed north.  There was a steady stream of traffic coming south, typical of the last day of a holiday weekend.  The wind was mostly from the East, so there weren't many stretches where I was getting a boost, other than the first leg on 522 going west.

Oh well.  I finished and felt better for it :).

I continue to putter in my den, cleaning and tossing.  I'm finally getting rid of the boxes that control the big dish (the 6' dish) that my Dad had installed.  There's nothing available on those satellites anyway, or at least nothing that I can pull in with an analogue receiver and unscrambled.

I'm running my boot disk on the USB 3.0 dock right now (vs eSata); so far so good.  I do have it cooled with a little fan but the fan is noisy; I'll have to pick up something else or perhaps just add a resistor and slow it down.

What else ... I went into town with Sandy's car without any problem.  That's good.  I guess that she's set for a trip to Toronto, but she hasn't heard from Joyce yet.

We had crappie for dinner but David skipped the crappie.  He said that he'd had enough fish but I think that he's just leery of bones, but there aren't ever any in crappie :).

There were problems on Highway 69 with a re-routing between Bing Inlet and Point-au-Baril.  Jason talked to Gavin by cell phone to see what was happening; David had heard of it first on the radio; Sandy had also seen it on her iPad.  The days are gone when a road blockage is a surprise !  Anyway, it was cleared by the time David came through.  Mike and Jill were heading down later.  Jason, Lorraine & Kim head out today as does Kyle.  It will be quiet here but perhaps we'll see Jim and Bonnie.

We had a line of thunderstorms come through around 10pm but I was just falling asleep so only saw the beginning.  It looked so fierce on the Doppler that we'd secured everything. closed garage and barn doors etc.

The black flies were amazing yesterday, instant clouds.  When I went for my ride, by the time I got out of the car at the Narrows they'd already gathered in a huge cloud awaiting me, attracted by the heat of the engine.  I was ready for them but didn't get away unscathed; bites on my neck.

David installed the ladder levelers that he gave me on the big ladder yesterday.  It's not a ladder that I use often but when I do, it will be nice to have those attached.  I'll probably use it more as a result.  The next time I paint that side of the house facing Jason, I'll be well prepared !

Today ... not sure.  It's gray and blowing right now.  The weather says drizzle now then showers then thundershowers -- get the idea ?

Onward !
