Yes, that was most of my day. Wiring. I'm finally getting at the bundles of wires that come into every room -- coax, Cat5 and Telephone. The telephone was a real waste. Everything is wireless now. In fact, the Cat5 is a real waste too, since everyone who comes here has a wireless setup. It MIGHT be used, however. The Coax is for TV. Perhaps one day that might be used, but not likely in the upstairs bedrooms.
I'm running into problems with the patch cables that I bought oh-so-long ago. When plugged all the way into the female connectors, they lose the signal. It's weird. I also did a ton of fussing trying to find out why one wasn't connecting until I found out that I'd mislabeled Bedroom 1 Right and Bedroom 2 Left, which back onto one another.
Once I have most of the connectors on and checked out at both ends, I have a patch panel that gets mounted on the wall and a 24 port Ethernet switch. Whether I bother with that will remain to be seen. I can always patch-wire a connector as needed. The panel will also accommodate the coax connectors, which will be patched to each other. There are four inbound coax wires from the satellite LNB and they can each be connected to one outbound, eg. the den, loft and basement with one spare at this point.
I fussed with the bike a bit, taking the rear wheel off and checking out the battery to the power meter which is giving me "low battery" warnings at this point. Sandy picked up a couple of those batteries for me. It's an easy fix.
Sandy went into Parry Sound, picking up ready-to-eat food and ready-to-plant food. She also got some more manure, some Jamaican booze for George that he'd asked me to pick up for him, the aforementioned batteries and some other sundry items.
I also needed a 1/2 AA size battery, 6 volts, for the Cat5 tester. She couldn't find that size at Shoppers Drug Mart, so I setup a 6 volt power supply to do the job. That was easy and will probably be a permanent fix since I use it so seldom and the battery goes dead between uses.
We had pickerel for dinner, the one that David and I had caught when he was here. It was excellent. That went nicely with rice and beans (green).
Another day was done; finished.
Today is starting out foggy but is supposed to be sunny and warm. I'll get out biking in spite of the predicted 30kph predicted wind from the SW.
Onward ...
