Even when everything goes like clockwork, it's a long day. My bike was the first bag off the carousel. My big duffel came out shortly afterward. That was good. I was so cramped up in that airplane for so many hours that something had to go right.
I then had to wheel the bags (with cart) up to the "blue line" train to get to the rental cars. Thankfully I could simply drive the cart on. I don't know what I'd have done otherwise.
The bike box fit in the Kia, just, but it did fit. From there it was traffic all the way to Davis, which surprised me for a Saturday afternoon. It was like San Fran traffic the entire way.
I got the bike together. I've just had a shower. I'm going to have dinner with Patrick, my room-mate from Kamloops. I'd seen from Facebook that he's here and we exchanged FB messages.
I also went to Walmart, picked up an $8 coffee maker (nothing in the room), a $10 watch (Sandy is getting my new band installed on the Tag, some crackers, a mug, plastic cutlery -- I should learn and bring this stuff with me -- but it was all less than $10 total -- some raisin bran and 3x$2.75 towels. I understand that there might not be towels at the Controls with showers so I've got these throw-away ones.
I went to get out my toothpaste from the end compartment of the wheeled duffel and ... oh oh ... sunscreen all over. Even though the sunscreen was in a plastic bag, it was all over everything in that compartment, which was only bottles and such anyway -- toothpaste, deodorant, sunscreen etc.
So ... that's about it for today.
--------
I had a good dinner with Patrick who is staying at the Econolodge right in UC Davis. I had tried to get in there but it was full It's a neat campus, right downtown Davis, which is kind of a quaint little place. We ate in a little cafe. Patrick came out a couple of days ago so he's been able to scout all the little restaurants.
I've got some things planned for today -- short bike ride, Mass, sort out drop bags etc. The Motel 6 is not exactly conducive to hanging around, but it's all that I've got.
Onward !
