They worked hard yesterday, installing all the doors but two; the glass doors are still at Vic's and will be here this a.m. That's the good news.
The bad news is that they haven't installed the handles yet and the doors and drawer fronts are sooo nicely fitted that you can't open them without handles ! In a stack of four drawers, to get into the top one, you have to start at the bottom and work up !
All that will be corrected today !
The other problem is that we have four doors that will need "retainers", as I call them, to stop from opening past 90 degrees. For three of them, opening to 110 degrees, standard now for these hinges, means that the door hits a wall. It won't take long for those doors to get marked. For another, the door hits the vent hood ... that will take even less time. Bill has a solution and we need it right away.
Yet another problem is that the fixed shelf in the pantry cabinet to the left of the fridge is mis-matched with the doors. It should have been right at the junction of the upper and lower doors. Whoops. Bill didn't want to think about that one. I think that the only solution is going to be to re-order the doors and move one of the lower shelves to match. The fixed shelf cannot be moved without damaging the cabinet.
There's always some tweaking with custom cabinets ... the "retainers" are tweaks; the problem with the fixed shelf was an error on someone's part ... but it will be fixed ... these guys are good.
The kitchen looks great ! I also got the top piece of the door casing in place at the sliding doors, in and caulked but not re-painted.
Speaking of painting ... for most of the day it was very difficult to get around as I had 20+ pieces of baseboard, upper trim and door casing spread out on the living room and dining room floors sitting on pieces of 2x4 or scrap trim as I painted them. By the end of the day I could organize them mostly out of the way, plus I installed the sides on the front, dining room, powder room and elevator. I didn't do the bedroom because I have to rip the right-hand side to narrower than 3.25" which means getting out the table saw. I'll do that this a.m. as well as cut and install all the top pieces of door casing. Caulk then paint and the doors are done ... then it will be time for baseboard !
I brought home more baseboard and door trim from Lowes first thing in the morning as well as three pieces of 1x8 for upper level trim in the living room. I'm thinking that those will be a bear to install but I'll figure that out. They're all painted now.
Four of the baseboard pieces are 16' long. Those are off to the side in the living room and not painted. I'll organize specifically for that, since they take up so much space. Three of them go in the living room, almost full length. One of them goes in the dining room, where one side is longer than 8' ... as I think about this, why only one side ? I think that the right-side is only 8' but if it's longer, no-matter, I'll piece that side. I would have pieced the 9 or 10' side as well, but since I was already bringing home 16' pieces for the living room, I thought "what the heck". They did kind-of hang out the back of the car ...
It's pretty obvious that I didn't go biking yesterday. It drizzled a few times and I figured that since Friday is granite-day; I'd go biking Thursday and Saturday. At least that's the plan.
With the kitchen being a little difficult to use, we went to the SYC for pasta night. They had a pasta bar, somewhat like an omelet bar -- choose your ingredients, hand them to the cook, choose your sauce and noodle and voila, mix and fry/cook that all up and you're good ! They're going to run this every Wednesday for the next while. What a deal -- dinner for $10 !
All of a sudden, starting about an hour ago, I'm going through Kleenex like I'm trying to increase their sales. I'm going to try and "ride this one out". I've found that the exercise helps fight these things off. Hopefully ... but where did this come from ? I haven't had a cold in a long time.
In other news, the adoption is off. They couldn't come to terms on the legal language. There's a lot more to the story but it doesn't matter ... no point in getting into it blog-wise.
Onward ? One can only hope ...
