Jan 2 - an inside day

The girls didn't even go outside yesterday.  However, they were going full tilt all day.

I made a run to the dump with two large garbage bags of stuff, brought in wood, put out the fishing rigs without any results, made some bread etc. etc.

I've had a problem with the little magnets that attach to the sliding doors that are part of the security sensors.  When it's this cold (-31F this a.m.) the two-sided sticky tape doesn't do a very good job and since the doors are sticky with frost, they get knocked off.  I succumbed to reality and mounted them with a screw.

The sensor side is also a problem.  It's collecting frost/water and ruining the electronics.  That's what happened to the front door.  It works better with the cap off but that's not a long term solution.  Perhaps I'm just wasting time with door sensors and should only use motion sensors ... don't know.

I did some wiring downstairs, prepping to hook up emergency electric heaters.  I did this on a temporary basis a couple of years ago but need to do it properly.  Having heaters plugged in during the winter with a kick-in point lower than the furnace setting will ensure that even if something happens to the gas furnace, other than lack of electricity, the house won't freeze up.  The other back-stop that I really need to put in place is the standby generator.  I'll look into that this year.

Today is going to be busy, heading to Barrie with the girls.  Jeffrey and Sara decided late yesterday that they'll hold off traveling until Saturday but I'm not sure that's a great decision.  It will be warmer but there's snow predicted.  We'll see.  I'll be getting the girls up in about a half hour; hopefully they will move at a reasonable pace.

We had lasagna for dinner made with home made pasta !  Kiley did the honours using the stand mixer and attachments that Sandy got for Christmas last year.  The pasta hanger that Stef made also got some use.  She also made some spaghetti for Emma.

What else ... not much really ... looking forward to getting to Florida and getting onto my bike !

Onward !
