Mar 20 - sort-of-a-ride

After getting stuff squared away with the David & Kim's franchise lawyer in the morning, I left on the bike.  It was a so-so ride for three reasons, chief among them being that I stopped every 10 minutes to check email, send emails and once to have a telephone conversation.

Why is it with lawyers that you pay them but they make you feel that you're working for them ?  Doctors are the same, except for the work part -- they tell you what to do.

With four sets of lawyers involved in this, there's lots of room for fun and games !

Anyway, we had made some progress by the end of the day and it looks like that will continue today.  Nothing is ever over until the fat lady sings, as they say in operas, however.

The other two reasons were self inflicted.  A new saddle and new cycling shoes kept me wondering why I do this to myself.  I made some progress with both by the end of the ride but am not sure what I'll use next time out.

I've been using the same saddle or rather the same version of saddle, since 2006 or earlier, so all my long riding has been on this saddle.  Selle Italia doesn't make it any more and I have 3 of them that are mostly worn out -- yellow bike, lynskey and rando bike.  The new saddle is also SI but, as I found out yesterday, just slightly different or perhaps its the not-worn-out-saddle difference ?  I was getting some chafing on the right side; not sure if I've leveled exactly the same; the saddle might be oh-so-slightly narrower.

The shoes were also bothering me, even though I'm using the same insoles.  I was getting some numbness with the right foot and the left foot arch seemed slightly off.  I'm not surprised; it took a while to break in my old shoes as well.  Perhaps I should ride in the rain and stretch them out :) but these synthetics don't really stretch when wet anyway.

I stripped the Lynskey frame yesterday, other than the headset cups.  I have to send that to Lynskey to get the chainstay fixed.  Whether I use that as a trade-in or take it back and sell it remains to be seen.

When I got home it was after 6pm, what with all the stops on my ride.  There was a 1:15 difference between "rolling time" and "elapsed time".  Sandy said that we were going to the SYC for pasta night, which we did.  It was really busy over there and we were the last ones served.  They were running out of some things in the pasta bar but we were ok.

Today ... not sure, but we will move onward, wherever that takes us.
