That was basically the highlight of the day. We spent hours first taking a tour with a guide and then going into the various buildings. I have no recollection of any of this from being here in 1975 ... no surprise ! I'm trying to think of a highlight, but nothing comes to mind. That's not a negative statement, it was all interesting.
After the castle, we wandered down the Royal Mile and passed on two pubs, one which we decided we didn't like the menu, the next because they didn't have fish & chips. We then went to Uncle's Fish and Chips, who didn't have fish. We found something on the menu that hit the spot but no more than that, not a place we'd go to again.
We walked back to the hotel, which was actually fascinating. We wandered around a couple of Pound stores (like a dollar store) and looked at the junk. We found restaurants everywhere, little shops etc. At one, we bought some Diet Pepsi for me and Sheryl, a bunch of 4-packs.
We went back to our rooms; Jim and Sheryl went to a local fire station (we found this out later) while we interneted ... a new verb. Sandy found some accommodation while exchanged multiple emails with the Ontario Cycling Association who is having some angst about our Risk Management Plan after a BC Randonneur was shot at 1am on a 600k ride. Perhaps we should be carrying guns ?
We'd opted to go back to the Salisbury Arms for dinner, same as the night before. Sandy and I both wanted fish and chips but she changed her mind and ordered something completely boring that looked like large deep fried potato balls but weren't. This was a case of exciting description, boring result. My fish was good but I left the batter behind. Sheryl had the Beef and Black Sheep Ale pie, which was excellent; Jim had chicken.
Another day was done ... oh yes, we found a distillery tour that we'll take today 15 miles away from Inverness ... can't visit Scotland without taking a distillery tour !
Onward ...
