Well, the best laid plans ... I thought that we might follow the LEL route to here but decided on the way to Thirsk that this would be too difficult. Sooo ... we then tried "avoidances" and avoided highways ... soooo ... Garmin surely thinks that an A-road with a 70 mph speed limit isn't a highway. I gave up.
We did stop at a little town and had lunch at a pub along the way. It wasn't quite the roadside pub that I had in mind, but we did well. Parking in Yarm was horrendous ... hmmm ... that's not what I had in mind :).
We hit Edinburgh a bit after 5pm, got checked in and had dinner. Walking back from dinner it was after 9pm; it's now after 10pm and still light outside ... !!!
Before we left Harrogate, Allan took me for a haircut. The barber remembered me from last year. We then went to the information center and I bought a t-shirt, TdF King of the Mountains polka-dot. They were out of yellow. Polka dot suits me more than green. I'm not a sprinter.
One town on our way out of Yorkshire had yellow bows all over the town -- clearly on the Day 2 route of the TdF. Tempting indeed, but we'll be on our way home at that point. We'll miss The Grande Depart.
I'm going to try and get out for a ride first thing tomorrow, before breakfast. I need to stretch my legs. I hope that it isn't raining.
Onward !
