I've got Jim's trailer in the air to rewire the lights and remove the growling bearing. Playing with said lights with a car battery hooked up to the wiring, found both wiring and ground issues. I will directly wire the ground as well. I'm getting 12 volts at the light but it won't come on ... seems that the connections are there but won't support the amperage of a tail-light.
Playing with X5 fuses -- can't figure out why the front aux power (cigarette lighter) isn't fixed, even though I replaced the blown fuse. My coffee maker blew the fuse. I then found that there was another fuse box under the dash; very hard to access ... but it's not related. I found another person in a forum who has the same problem and commented "dealer can't figure it out" -- why is this so difficult ?
Neither of these are electronic, per se; they're pretty straightforward. Power to light; power to aux plug -- can't get any more straightforward than that ! I only fiddled with the trailer for a little while, just ensuring that the wiring coming out of the back of the light was ok, which it is.
I did get something accomplished though -- had a bike ride. It was the first time that I went a significant distance, my usual 70 miles, in weeks. With the girls here, I only did a couple of here-to-69 rides, which are 36 miles and in Philly, 40 miles. I got to ride the new section of pavement where they are doing the 4-lane since a) I was heading north and b) it was Sunday ... yes, you got it -- road not open to car traffic yet. Ooohhh love that smooooth pavement !
Jason invited me for dinner and he grilled lamb chops -- excellent ! I should pick up some of them from Costco and when we're having steak, Sandy can have steak and I'll have a lamb chop or two. On that basis a package would last a long time, since we don't have steak very often.
They will be heading home today (Monday) and returning in a week, then staying up for two weeks ... or at least that was the plan last night.
I didn't hear from Sandy but assume that she made it to Barrie, had dinner with Kim and Megan and stayed at Stef's.
Onward !
