Oct 14 - rain

This says it all ...  we're about in the center of that.

Yes, it was a good thing that I did a lot of trailer packing a couple of days ago.  The car still has to be packed but that's not too bad.

I did some electrical work yesterday, diddling a little with the generator side of the panel.  The downstairs fridge was never on the generator side, so I moved that, combining it with the gas stove, which only uses electricity to ignite the burners, light the oven and run the convection fan.  If it uses 100 watts total, I'd be surprised.  I'm not sure why the gas stove was by itself anyway, extravagant use of a circuit !  The day before I moved the garburetor/under-sink-hot-water-heater to the generator upper panel where I had a spare spot.  All the breaker slots are now used.  If I do any other juggling I might add a small sub-panel but that's it for now.

That picture of the Doppler is this morning.  If that doesn't move through I'll be putting the boat away in the rain; securing the dock in the rain; packing the car in the rain ... you get the idea.  The only other thing that I need to do outside is bring down a couple of loads of wood so we're well stocked for a wintry arrival.

Some big news -- Jim and Bonnie got an offer on their place yesterday a.m. and by the end of the day all conditions were waived.   Close date is end of November so they've got work to do.   They called us last night to tell us the big news.  Their plan had been to return here yesterday but they stayed in Parry Sound.  Good for them !  It seems like the end of an era though; we're going to miss them.  Timing is good for them but unfortunate in that I won't be here to give them a hand.  Jim said that they plan to use a mover, which is good.  80% (Jim's number) of what's in the house will stay there but it's still a lot of work.

Jason et al left yesterday, house winterized and closed up.  It's great having neighbours -- they remembered afterwards that they hadn't propped open the fridge doors, so I did that.  Earlier this year they did something for us, a full bread drawer that would have been blue by our return  I guess with no one around we'd better make sure that we do a good job !  That said, I could always ask David to make a trip up if that was really necessary.

I did some computer backing up yesterday, should probably do some more today.  I talked Pat Martin through getting into gmail; he replied to a test email that I sent him.  He uses dial-up so I can't coach him while he's online.  I had to chuckle when Pat said "you know I'm 71, I can't get into these new things".  Pat also told me that he's having some issues with his feet -- burning -- that he's checking out.  He isn't sure that he'll be able to carry the responsibilities into 2016.

Also on the Roads Board front, I've arranged for a new Secretary Treasurer -- Peggy Whitehead -- who lives in Arnstein.  She's already the S/T for another board so this should be an easy transition.  The cut-over date for Susan's trustee and S/T responsibilities will be Nov 30 this year.  Susan and Peggy will have to meet at the bank for a handover.

All of a sudden I've had to do some actual "management" work for the Roads Board !

I guess that's about it.  The rain let up enough for me to barbecue some salmon on a cedar plank for dinner.  That was good.  Shortly we'll be eating NSB-style !

Onward !
