Dec 19 - trimming the tree
The picture says it all, the major activity yesterday.
I also went to town, meeting Peggy Whitehead at the Caisse (credit union) to get my signature on file for the Local Roads Board. While in town I dropped off a bunch of wine bottles at the LCBO, accumulated for some time, and stopped at Home Hardware to pick up a couple of globe-style chandelier bulbs that fit in out inside sconces.
I took care of some Randonneurs Ontario work, submitting the Ontario Cycling Association Affiliation Application with all of the necessary attachments (Incorporation Documents, Membership Card sample, Ride Schedule, Jersey design, Risk Management Plan). The application itself requires signatures and initials in many places from me and Arthur (President this year) as well as list of board members, checkboxes all over the place ... you get the idea. Last year I'd copied their document to Word to make it editable; this year they've upped their game and it was an editable PDF. I found that my normal contact has "moved on to greener pastures" as I was told but Greg promised to review, approve and give direction to CCN so that the registration system could go live. Well, it appears that they didn't hear from him. Strike one.
I got another pike, slightly smaller than yesterday's and not a full meal by itself. So we had rainbow trout, stuffed by yours truly.
Today I should put together the submission for the accountant for our fiscal year tax prep. The other thing that we've got going, besides the pending registration system for the new year, of course, is complying with the anti-spam legislation in effect in Canada now. There are a variety of interpretations but I think that we must be small fry in the number of emails that we send out, which are in fact solicited, vs unsolicited. People join our mailing list for ride announcements etc. because they WANT to receive those emails. We don't add anyone to a list automatically. The legislation is broad brush, however, and throws everyone into the spammer category unless you comply with the "express" or "implied" permission. I think that joining a list has got to provide express permission, but nothing in this kind of legislation is as simple as it seems.
You'd think that if I join an email distribution list that I want to receive emails ... well, according to the legislation, not necessarily ... well why would I join the list ? Not so fast ! Sigh.
It was 2F outside the last that I looked. Now that's chilly.
Onward !
