Why ? Who knows. Two good sized pike put 31 oz of fillets in the freezer. David arrived a little after dark and we had one of the pike for dinner. Delicious.
I'm down to four minnows, will likely go into town today to pick up some more.
The temperature stayed a little over freezing. We take the plunge today though, going down to -8C tonight; -17C Sunday night; -25C Monday night. I guess that I'll have to turn that heater on under the X5 again !
Deryl's funeral (yes, that's the correct spelling) will be held first thing Monday morning in Richmond Quebec. We won't be going, unfortunately. Sandy's sister Sheryl (yes, that's the correct spelling too !) and her husband Jim will be attending along with many others, no doubt. They hope to have a ceremony spreading his ashes sometime in the Spring or Summer, so if that works out, me might attend.
Sandy's been getting her new iPad in order, loading and updating software. The only thing not working right now is photos sync between the devices, but that didn't work between her old phone and iPad either.
David is unsure how long he's going to stay. He's conflicted between the desire to stay the week and getting back to work and saving the vacation until later.
I did some wiring cleanup, for the plug-in 220v heaters that I have in the basement. They're big baseboard heaters from the old cottage, setup to be portable. They do a good job heating the basement. They're on thermostats so that they'd come on in case the propane furnace failed. Of course if we don't have power, neither these nor the furnace would run !
I'd love to be able to run some permanent wiring to receptacles so that we're not tripping over wires, but that ain't going to happen. If I could do it, I'd have one receptacle on the far side of the pool table and another in the games room. Running the wires above the ceiling is easy; running the wire down the drywall is not since it's flat against the styrofoam/concrete ICF blocks. Perhaps some day ... but I don't want these used most of the year anyway.
The other wiring that I should have done, in retrospect, is have a three-way switch at the bottom of the stairs for the main area of the basement. Right now the switch is at the basement door. Oh well.
That's about it for now; onward !
