First time south of the equator, for both of us. It was an easy drive to Miami, traffic bunching up just before the airport. I'd pre-arranged parking with Park 'n Fly and we pulled there; they valet the car; shuttle took us to the terminal.
The last time we flew out of Miami it was just after 9/11. 9/13 or 9/14, to be exact. It was a zoo then; it's not quite the same zoo now. Then they had to call in the police as they were afraid of a riot; now ... just very busy.
Sandy forgot that she had a corkscrew in her purse, so we spent extra time at security and she lost "our" corkscrew. It was around 3pm and we were both hungry so we settled for the Irish Pub. The fish and chips wasn't up to snuff. Her pulled pork looked ok. Once I stripped the heavy batter off, there wasn't much fish so I bought a California Roll at the sushi place on the way to our gate. Naturally it was worse than the fish and chips, with that imitation crab ... but it filled my gut.
The flight boarded on time, left a few minutes early and got into Guayaquil twenty minutes early. Since we were close to the back of the bus, there was a huge queue at immigration but it was well organized and efficient. At the baggage claim, our bags were already out but it took a while to find them. Through Customs, no hassles, Kim Davies smiling face greeted us along with our driver.
I turned on SPOT and Jas and Lo watched our progress, met us downstairs. It was a semi-wild two hour trip. Lane markings are suggestions, not rules. Red lights are also suggestions. This makes Italian driving seem very civilized.
We're on the 11th floor overlooking the crescent shaped beach. It's beautiful.
I've had my coffee, my cereal and my chicken soup. All is well in the world.
Onward !
