Jun 28 - beam me up !

Oh, I wish it were that easy, however, we are now back up north.

Sandy surprised me when we were driving and talking about where we'd stay overnight when she said that she preferred to go straight home.  Since I'd dawdled in Reading, going to Giant after Mass etc., we didn't get away very early.  We also stopped along the way at an Advance Auto Parts in Cortland, to pick up new windshield wipers for both cars (cheaper in the U.S.), throwing those into the trailer for later installation.  The Swiss Chalet at the Casablanca exit off the QEW was hopping -- Sunday night, 6pm -- so that added 45 minutes.  Put it all together and we got here around 11pm.

There was no delay at the border; fellow asked us where we lived, where we were going, what we were bringing (a mosquito trap and some minor items for the cottage), how long we were staying (until August 11) -- going back to Florida then ? -- no, to Europe -- it must be nice to be rich and famous says he -- nice to be retired, says I -- and he sent us off.  He didn't ask and I forgot to mention the two cases of beer, but that's my limit anyway.

The temperature during the drive stayed pretty constant at 58F; drizzled on and off but no really heavy rain.  It was a good travel day, in that regard.  Once here we turned things on, had a glass of wine and hit the sack.

Turning things on amounts to flipping the switch on the water, turning on some breakers (haven't even done that yet, forgot), turning on the on-demand hot water and the computer ... just a minute or two's work.  I unloaded the car, which wasn't much, leaving the trailer for this a.m.

The other thing that I did once here was go through the pictures on the laptop that I'd copied from the camera on the 600k ride.  I had a niggling suspicion that I might not have had a picture from every Control, which would mean a DQ (disqualify, not Dairy Queen), but I was ok.  Whew !

Today I've got some catch-up on many fronts.

Onward !
