Sep 9/10 - things are looking up !

The trip back to the cottage was mostly uneventful except for a couple of "I need a bathroom NOW" stops.  I didn't expect otherwise.  We stopped in Loring on the way through, picking up milk & eggs.  Sandy was originally going to head into Sudbury on Friday (that's today) but may leave that until tomorrow.

It was warm when we got here and even warmer in the cottage.  Sandy opened all the windows and unloaded the car (bless her heart), which I ... used the bathroom ... and then turned the water on at Jason's to feed our supply.  Why ?  We'd had a water issue while away and Jason temporarily linked both houses as I wanted to deal with it myself upon my return.

That kept us overnight and then the next morning I tackled replacing the internal heat line, which had been leaking.  That was a job that should have taken 15 minutes, had the diameter of the pipe between the house and the well head been 1.25" instead of 1" ... but eventually I got that done and we're now back on our own supply.

Once everything was powered up, I did some quick email catch up in preparation for, yeah, a Randonneurs Ontario conference call at 8pm.  I did inform them in advance that I might not last the entire call, and I didn't.  I was pretty wiped out.

Up early on Thursday, there was the aforementioned plumbing to take care of, financial catchup, laundry, but still it was a quiet day.  It's been a month since we've spent the day with just ourselves, amazingly quiet compared to what we've been through.  It's a welcome respite.

We had grilled chicken for dinner along with roasted butternut squash.  I wasn't able to eat all of my chicken quarter but was definitely feeling better.  Overnight I had my first normal BM in a week -- yay, yay, yay -- no one who has never been through so many days of uninterrupted diarrhea would have any idea how great that is.  The duration might have been shorter had I been home, I'll admit.  I consumed several liters of liquids, rehydrating, and having my first normal pee in as many days.  That only occurred to me at the time.

Ok, enough of this !  Of course that means that I may very well attempt the Big Chute 200k on Saturday ... but I expect that will be a slow ride.  I haven't turned a pedal in a month and am obviously still recovering.  The thing is, I need a 200k for September and the weather will only get colder as the month wears on.  At this point the weather looks promising -- dry but cool -- and that may be as good as it gets.

Today I'm off to Barrie, likely after an early dinner.  Right now the sun's up, it's flat calm with a little bit of fog on the lake, a perfect Fall day even though technically it's still summer.

Onward !
