We left the house a little before noon and got to Batavia before 6pm. It was an easy drive with no traffic north of Barrie, busy but moving the rest of the way until we turned onto the 405 towards the Queenston Lewiston bridge and then we were the only car on the road. Getting to the US side, there were three stations open and one car at one, the other two open. The agent asked where we were coming from and then he handed our passports back.
I was all ready to launch into the full story, i.e. Europe and everything, if he'd asked how long, where we'd been, what we were bringing back, why so little luggage -- but he only asked where we were coming from - "our cottage north of Parry Sound" and I answered and we were off.
After hitting highway 69, Sandy's cell phone beeped and there was a text from Chantelle that she was due back home from Newfoundland on the 19th; the dogs would then go to the vet for shots and start of deworming (standard procedure) and they'd be ready on the weekend. She's allowing us to pick up on Friday; we'll make that as early as possible.
We found an Applebees in Batavia about a mile from the hotel. It's one of our "trusted" chains for dinners on the road. With four big screens tuned to the American League game, we watched the Blue Jays pull it off. This is the first time that they've gotten this far since we moved to Philly right after they did back-to-back World Series wins.
So ... today we're headed to Phoenixville for dinner with Mariadela and Leonas and then to Reading. Tomorrow, Friday, we have lunch with Doris and Wayne.
Onward !
