Oct 7 - check, check

It was time to check off a few items on my to-do list and some items that weren't on the list, but needed doing !

Garbage.  I've had some garbage hanging around for a long while, pieces of metal and that kind of trash, including several rotors.  I loaded them up along with the kitchen garbage ... whoops, raccoon got into it last night, must have known that I was coming ... clean that up and load it up; I had a car full.  I've got more that will go another day; it's clean stuff in garbage cans -- barn and basement.

Next, never mind putting this off, do the X5 oil change.  I used the ramps which raise the front end to make it easier to crawl under, open the drain but less easy to change the filter, but both needed to be done.  I didn't run into any issues.

Once back out in the driveway, I loaded up the rim & snows from the old X5.  They now fill the car and will go to the Arnstein Garage tomorrow a.m. as scrap.  That appointment is for 8am so I'll be out of here early.

Ok, I'm on a roll.  I got out the power washer and did the kayaks, the old 12' fiberglass upside down at the shore and the Whaler.  That complete and out of gas in the power washer, it's ready to come inside for the winter.  I then drained the lake pump and ran out of plumbing antifreeze winterizing it.  I'll pick up some more in town tomorrow; no point in taking a chance.

Let's see ... check my list ... those were some of the major items.  The dock still has to find its way to the beach, of course, and the gazebo needs to be wrapped.  There may be some boating this weekend, so I'll leave those until Monday and get David's help at that point.  If I had about 20 more guys, I could carry the dock but no such luck.

The following two pictures were when work was underway on Jason's dock before we went to Europe.  There were a few more over from Simms to hoist the dock up.  After all, if the Egyptians could build pyramids with brute force manpower ...

Anyway, there's less water now and my dock is bigger; I'm not sure how far I'll be able to get it into the shore.  This should be interesting.

Sandy did go into Sudbury; she's there now.

------------

Sandy got back mid afternoon.  She said that Sudbury was quiet and that checking out at Costco she walked up to an open register -- that's great !  She did come back with quite a load of stuff for the weekend and for Florida.  She also brought back some tuna for last night's dinner ... great !  We're looking forward to our change of diet as we move to ocean fish.  Eating tuna now is getting a bit ahead of ourselves, but what the heck.

Jason's last tape is being transcribed as I write this.  The next step is writing DVD's which is much faster.  I've been using my Dad's machine to rewind tapes, so it's been handy for that.  I'll probably put it back on the shelf in the den but I should probably just throw it out ... Stef and Aaron can take theirs home.

Sandy bought puppy food and treats, so we're accumulating stuff.  A while ago she went through Abby's toys and selected some to throw, washed a couple of well-munched ones.  She's still got a full basket by the fireplace and of course another full basket in Florida.  I'm of two minds on this -- starting off fresh might be better.  We pick up the puppy in two weeks ... this should be interesting.

David is supposed to arrive tonight; he called me late yesterday from the grocery store as he was picking up chili fixin's.  I'm going to cook some up for him, bagged for meals.

It's 35F out there now.  That's probably as cold as we're going to see it before we get back here at Christmas as there's no frost in the forecast, last I checked.

Onward ...
