Another day working on the deck, only I started this day picking up more wood. The 12' 2x6's that I still have quite nicely cut up into 3x4' pieces for the walkway, but there are others in the 14' and 16' range that I didn't want to piece and the entire area in front of the boat which is 10' ... so ... I picked up 13x16' pieces and 17x10' pieces. That trailer is coming in quite handy !
Oh my aching everything ... moving and then working with those 16' pieces is literally a pain. Awkward, heavy, lots of carrying and twisting ... be careful ! If this was an open deck, that would be different, but I'm working on the dock with handrails, boats, mangroves etc. all in the way and have to lift and swing those pieces around, plus most of them needed two cuts - an angled cut at one end and a straight cut at the other. Again, had this been an open deck, I'd have simply laid them and cut them in place, but that doesn't work here.
Break the day into thirds ... getting and moving wood to the dock; pulling up old pieces and running some new stringers in a few places; laying new deck. You'd think that I'd have laid a lot of deck but only put down 10 pieces. By then it was 4pm and time to clean up. That took an hour. I moved all the torn up pieces, nails sticking out everywhere, to the curbside. I'm hoping that the garbage man doesn't complain about the nails. I'm not sure whether they will go with yard trash or garbage. I also had to move all the banana leaves that I'd piled at the side of the house to the curb along with Sandy's clippings. That done, put the tools away.
I haven't decided what I'll do today yet. I won't be able to ride either Wednesday or Thursday because I have doctor's appointments. That means that I'll ride either today or tomorrow and then likely Friday ... or Saturday ... we also have to get over to the island with Cassie.
Speaking of Cassie, at this point we are declaring a success with potty training She goes to the door to pee and poop. How long she would stand there trying to get our attention if she was in the kitchen and we were in the living room, remains to be seen. We're talking ... with trepidation ... of taking down the baby gate between the rooms when Marda comes on December 5. Marda won't be able to negotiate the gate anyway (and I can barely negotiate it right now, I'm so stiff), and we can expand Cassie's horizons. We'll see how that works but I'm sure that once free, it would be hard to contain her again.
Oh oh. 5am and I just heard Cassie bark. I was hoping that she'd be down until closer to 6am. Perhaps she heard me typing ? Maybe Sandy got up to use the bathroom ? It was just one bark so we'll let that settle a bit and see what happens. We don't want her to feel that barking yields results ... and yet at some point, one bark will have to be her way of telling us "I need to go out" or "let me in". Was this a "hey Dad, I want to get up" bark ?
Doctor's appointments this week -- Gundian, urologist, on Wednesday; Straker, gastroenterologist, on Thursday. Soon afterwards, hopefully, I'll get the colonoscopy out of the way. I should get over to the eye glasses place this morning and once that colonoscopy appointment is set, I'll call the dermatologist for an appointment.
Speaking of appointments, I'm still waiting for a call from Guido (Dr. Galli) about the x-ray results. I may have to give him a prod.
Somehow this is reminiscent of George and Geri scheduling all their appointments for when they get back to Arizona. This is the first time that they've all come together, for me.
Onward ?
