Nov 17 - crazed and batteries

So ... after the other day when I was writing about batteries, a few minutes listening to the radio in the X5 with the engine off and the battery light came on.  That battery isn't long for this world.  I should have kept my mouth (keyboard) shut.  I've now ordered and paid for a new Bosch battery at Pep Boys and will pick it up on Wednesday on the way back from Jacksonville.    They had a 20% off special which eases the pain.  It's a big, expensive battery.

That was one thing.

I went into the optometrist and told the girl about the halo around bright lights and she gave me this "huh?" look.  So I looked up at one of the pot lights and sure enough, I could see a halo.  I handed her the glasses and she could too !  She didn't know what to make of it but a specialist was walking by and the question was posed ... the answer was that the glasses were crazed.

You know those fine crack lines that dishes develop ?  Yup, that's it.  It's called crazing ... so I'm not crazy !  Apparently they can develop due to heat; it's usually the coating that is crazed.

Tharcle.  Have you ever heard of tharcle ?  THin Anti Reflective Coated LEnses.  It's the Crizal coating that's crazed.

The maybe bad news is that the 2-year warranty was up in September ... great ... but she's going to try and put it through anyway.  We'll see.

In the meantime, as she said, stop trying to clean them ...

Speaking of warranty, I heard from Kim Taylor today and the hearing aid is back from warranty repair.   I'll pick that up on Thursday.

As for the dock, I just heard from Manatee Marine and they'll come Wednesday and sink those new posts ... great !  It's turning out to be a busy week !

I went into Altamonte Springs (Orlando area) and saw Dr. Straker re the colonoscopy.  That's now scheduled for December 11.  If this one is clean like the last one, that's it for 10 years.  Apparently Medicare only pays for one 'oscopy in your lifetime, so that would be it, since I'll be on Medicare at that point, unless there's some indication that something is going on, of course.

I did ride, a tough one with a strong east wind, but mostly tough because my legs were really stiff from all that heavy lifting, kneeling and squatting at the dock.

We had dinner with Harris and Debbie, along with Ryan, a warm-showers rider from Toronto, heading to Key West.

Leaving soon for Jacksonville, the urologist appointment.  It will be a busy day.

Onward ...
