I took a break at one point and ran the second wire for the lead defender. It's like a telephone wire; I fished it through existing holes from the utility room to the far side of the workroom and placed the detecto-puck on the floor. That's my name for the puck shaped detector. It's got a green light for power and good and a test and reset button; pretty simple affair.
I also recorded all the Generac log entries; still working with them to get some recompense for all the propane that the beast used last Fall ... yup, Fall of 2014. It's amazing how time flies.
I sent off the forms to the accountant for the Randonneurs Ontario tax return; that was easy. An accountant friend of Jim Griffin does the return for free ... charitable giving ? Anyway, I hope that it lasts. One of these days he may retire and then I'll be up the creek !
Someone beat me to it ! A boat went up the lake today. Actually I wasn't planning on launching a boat but had been thinking about it. It would be cold out there on the water ! If I knew where to fish, I'd be tempted, but otherwise no.
What else ...did I do anything else ? Sandy is in Sudbury with a myriad of errands, from groceries to dog food to baby gates. Although she will complain about all the driving around in Sudbury and she'll be tired; it's her thing and she wouldn't give it up :).
It appears that the starting battery for the generator is a victim of the issue last year. I'm not surprised. I'll size it and bring up a new one from Florida, although with the Canuck Buck still dropping, now at 71.6 cents USD mid-market, it actually might be cheaper to buy one here. I'm sure that if I went into a bank and wanted to get some US cash, my CAD would be worth less than 70 cents right now.
--------
Morning again, my version of morning, early and dark.
Sandy brought back Sockeye Salmon from Sudbury; which was great on the grill for dinner. She was also loaded with other groceries including a turkey that is now in the freezer downstairs. She crisscrossed Sudbury, which was entertaining to see on SPOT. She spent so much time at Canadian Tire that I thought that she'd taken up residence !
She also bought puppy food, most of which will go to the US with us. I wonder if we should buy another bag ... hmm. She's gone through most of one bag since we picked her up in October and I think that she'll be eating this stuff for a while. The food is substantially cheaper here.
While Sandy was out, Nancy Standring called and we chatted for a while. They aren't going to Florida this winter because her husband Ron isn't up to it, having spent seven weeks in hospital after an operation removing a benign pituitary gland tumor. That gland is normally pea-sized but it was closer to a golf ball and pressing on the optic nerve, cutting down his peripheral vision. That's how the doctor spotted it.
Removal of the pituitary isn't easy as you have to go through the skull; it's at the base of the brain. He is taking therapy now and on the mend but that will take time. You lose a lot of strength after that much time in a hospital bed. He'll have to take hormone replacement for the rest of his life -- that's no big deal -- as the pituitary controls many bodily functions.
There are so many things that can go wrong with these bodies of ours. They are so complex and that very complexity begets problems. So many glands, so many organs -- really a bad design as there are multiple points of failure and very little redundancy. Oh well, it is what it is :).
I posted the picture below on Facebook; a funny one as she's lying beside the dog bed. Surprisingly, she really likes this bed and normally sleeps on it when there's nothing going on and we're within sight. This one was Abby's. She hasn't been inclined to use a dog bed in Florida, simply sleeps on the floor. Perhaps she's ready for it now.
Onward !
