That's it. That's what I was doing. In the meantime, another guest arrived ! Yup, Angelika had not met Cassie who now has more friends here than she knows what to do with !
Back to the ride -- great weather albeit a little cold to start on Saturday and windy the entire day. The headwind never turned into a tail-wind and coupled with Paul and Judith liking their stops ... we finished up close to 3am, 400k and 23 hours on the day. That killed our plans of starting together at 5am but I still had a deadline for a Granite Anvil conference call last night ... so I left around 5:30 a.m.; they left at 7am. I finished up around 3:30 p.m.; they pulled in a little after 6pm. Another 600k is in the bag for the three of us once Saturday rolls by. Why is that ? Well, this being a pre-ride, we haven't officially completed the ride until its scheduled date.
I was back home just before 6pm, in time to feed Cassie. I missed my dog ! Did she miss me ? Actually I hope not. She was happy to see me though, but then again she's happy to see everyone.
On the ride, a couple of Subway chopped salads, cheese and my seed bars basically kept me going. Oh yes, it's coming back to me now ... two Chobani plain Greek yogurts at a Wawa, two fried chicken breasts at another stop, probably four bags of pork rinds ... diet pepsi, diet mountain dew, very little water, no V8 this time.
Not enough liquid, too much cheese, one chicken breast too many ... I've got to be more scientific about my fueling. The chopped salads are good. They provide a filling meal with slow release carbs, very little protein, minimal fat content (the dressing), and some fiber. If they had more nuts and olives, that would be a good balance. Some convenience stores have hard boiled eggs -- I grabbed a couple of those at a 7-11 as I headed out for the final 200k. I think that I could probably have a wrap sandwich and not worry about those carbs while riding. "They" (in this case Dick) say that those carbs go right to your muscles when you're riding because you're low on carbs anyway. The trick is to not load up.
I don't know. I'm always hungry on these rides. Paul survives on chips and gatorade, a couple of yogurts -- with celiac disease he can't eat any gluten and most things are suspect.
Anyway, that's the last big ride before heading north. I'll have to squeeze in a 200k for May ... oh wait, I'm thinking of doing the Dawsonville 400k; that's a big one. If I can knock that one off, then I don't need a 200k.
I was supposed to have Jessica this a.m. but she cancelled. She proposed a later time but I have the Lost Channel Local Roads Board call at 10am. I'll see her tomorrow anyway.
Onward ...
