May 16 - productive day

We did get a lot done, some of which I've mentioned before.

Sandy cleaned and did laundry, organized ...

I stripped the gazebo, moved the docks, launched the Whaler (with Sandy's help), setup the bug collector / mosquito thingy (hope it works on black flies too ...).  I had lots of stuff to organize but so far, it's more just putting things in place, like all the bike stuff downstairs.  I brought up my seasonal supplies of hot sauce etc. etc. and that's piled up here and there.

Last night, upon arrival, I had to clean up some issues with the security system.  Low batteries in many locations were causing beep-beep-beep enough to drive you crazy.   Even with my hearing, it was irritating !

What else ... oh yes, changed the license plate on Sandy's car AFTER going into town and realizing that I still had, believe it or not, 2014.  Changing a plate should be easy but, of course, one screw wouldn't come out of the holder so it became a half-hour project.

I've still got lots to do but it's settling in. There will always be lots to do !

Oh yes, and the black flies are starting to become a nuisance.

Oh yes, and I took out Cassie's stitches.  She's been swimming, running, exploring, having a great time.  She's found chipmunks to chase ... What a great place / a great life for a dog !

We're eating partly out of the freezer and partly from the short visit to Sobeys.  We had meat (sausages, steak etc.) in the freezer and we'd picked up veggies.  We need fish !  Sandy will be going into Sudbury today for a haul.

I took Sandy's car into town to pick up the accumulated mail.  Finally, finally, I've got my hot little hands on the check from Generac and was able to do a mobile deposit.  Thank goodness for that.  I'm happy to close the books on that issue.  Oh yes, the generator is up and functional.  There was nothing else of note in the pile, other than the local property taxes.  There must be some way to reduce the total paper.  I will check on that.  At least we don't get Macleans via paper any more.

I didn't get very far down Osprey before the light came on that I needed to add coolant.  It's not something that I've checked in a long, long time.  I came back and topped it up, checked underneath when I got to 522.  It wasn't dripping so perhaps it's just "sweating" somewhere.  A couple of years ago ... perhaps three years ? ... I replaced the alternator & water pump and perhaps it's not quite sealed so that over the course of that time, it's lost some fluid.  I'll simply feed its habit.  The car is a 2002 with just over 150,000 miles on it.  The M5 in Florida is a 2001 with just shy of 100,000 miles on it.  The X5 is a 2011 with 112,000.

If I had to replace the two sedans right now, I might consider doing something different.  Patty Himes shipped her car from Connecticut to Florida and back again for about $700 per trip.  At $1,400 per year it's cheaper to buy one car and move it back and forth.  Of course it could also be driven, if we're leaving at different times or doing different routes.  The economics point to having two cars, not three.  We never drive Sandy's car at Christmas, which is the only time that we'd be up here with one car.  It is handy to have it there for an emergency but there are other ways to manage that, including rentals.

I thought that Sandy was going to be anxious to drive her car, but she's taking the X5 into Sudbury for the practicality.  It's loaded up right now with recyclables and she'll be able to pack more stuff into it for the trip back.

Onward ?  yeah.
