I always remember things as soon as I hit "Publish".
As I doodled around in the yard with the 4-wheeler, I hooked up the 4x6 trailer and pulled it into the barn. I'll see if I can get David to help me with the 25 Merc. I need to get that out and on a stand, perhaps the hand-truck, to see if it's running. Before that, I need to install the tiller.
Early in the day I tackled the steerer on the new fork for the Litespeed. The bottom inch was just too tight for comfort when installing the top of the headset and spacer. I'd never get them off again, especially if I was traveling. I'd talked to Ticycles about this and they said yes, I could sand that titanium but of course they didn't tell me how hard that would be. I worked at it for a while with sandpaper and then emery cloth and all I was doing was shining the Ti. I then hit upon using the belt sander, inverted on the floor, while I held the fork rotating it gradually. Finally I determined that I was making some progress so I kept working at it that way until the spacer and headset would go on with "comfortable difficulty" vs uncomfortable. Tapping the top of the steerer to get the headset off is ok; hammering is not !
I went into town to pick up mail and a new flag. They didn't have a Canadian flag in the right size; they're on order. There was only one piece of mail. I wasn't really expecting the compression plug to have arrived yet but I could hope. I'll check again on Tuesday; the post office won't be open on Monday as it's the Victoria Day holiday.
Onward ...
