Boating took up much of the day on Thursday. Jason et al arrived a few minutes late and met us at the marina. I'd stopped by earlier and talked to the mechanic; our boat was already in the water because he was checking something out. It behaved itself during our ride and he will replace the faulty sensor at some point, no rush now.
Since Cassie couldn't run, we did not stop at the island. We did go out into the ocean for a few minutes -- it was pretty wild. The predicted W wind was in face NW, with good sized waves in the ICW and really rolling once past the breakwater. We bounced around like a cork ... I didn't try to go anywhere so we didn't have any waves come over the bow :).
North of the Inlet, the ICW was more protected so we made a run up to the Dunlawton Bridge / Port Orange then turned around and came back. We lunched at Inlet Harbor, our standby, cruised back to the marina and south past our house and then back to the marina. It was a great day on the water.
The reason that I'd been in the area of the marina earlier was because I had an appointment with Dr. Lechler, the podiatrist. He's trying something else - an injection into the foot to calm down a nerve that is giving me the "hot foot" sensation. He's also recommending wider shoes so I think that I'll just get snow shoes and be done with it. All kidding aside, I did go online and order another pair of runners, Brooks, which were my trusty standby in my running days. The Asics that I'm wearing now don't come wider -- actually they do, but they're not in stock.
Sandy's iWatch arrived and Kim helped her get it set up. My heart rate monitor arrived and it's going back. For one thing, it isn't connecting to my Garmin, which should happen automatically with ANT+. I didn't even bother trying to connect to my cell phone, that's not the point. Besides, the real issue, when I started researching to figure out the connection problem (which never resolved itself, by the way) is that the device is only good for 8 hours, rather useless from my point of view. I had thought that it might last at least a fraction of what my chest strap lasts, which is about 2 years. This is a dud.
After boating, I pulled the battery and brought it home. I don't know if we'll get out again. We don't have much time. Jason and the gang went over to Flagler Ave to show Kyle around -- who knows when, if ever, he'll get down here again. After their quick tour they were back here; we relaxed for a bit; we went to the club for the Cinco de Mayo / Thirsty Thursday. They had a good spread and even though Mexican themed, Sandy was able to have a couple of helpings.
Back at the ranch again, Jason headed back to Orlando. They've got a long day today at Magic Kingdom.
Today ... heading to Dawsonville around noon; tomorrow the 400k; return Sunday afternoon; probably won't be able to blog again until Monday a.m.
Onward !
