Hamid was visting childhood friends who lived in the area; they picked him up around noon. Before that, we went out for a 5-mile ride, checking out the bikes, and to Safeway for food and drink. Hamid picked up some wine and tequila - gifts - while I picked up some Snapple, antipasto olive mixture, cheese etc. to go with the leftover chicken that I already had in the room fridge from the day before.
We saw the Olsen's, Bill and Mark, at breakfast. Hamid saw Jason Pearce and some other San Fran riders who were doing their own checkout rides. Of course if they drove up, they certainly didn't need to do any checking out other than passing the time. I'm sure that many more gathered over the course of the day but I simply took it easy, letting my circadian rhythm do some catching up.One thing that I did do was drink a lot -- coffee, my chicken soup, three bottles of diet snapple, to get caught up hydration-wise. The flight leaves you dehydrated and that's no way to start a ride. While some might carb-load; I like to focus on hydration. I've started off this morning with a bit of a headache -- combination of allergies, no doubt, the time change and a late morning coffee. I'm remedying that right now.
I watched most of The Martian, which wasn't too bad.
I've got food for the road - cheese, dried fruit, date/flax bars. I'll pack some in my pockets and the rest will be in my drop bag.

It's hard to say when my next blog might be.
