Jun 22 - aftermath

I am doing the write-up.  That will likely take a day or two.  Be patient !

It's not the greatest idea to travel right after one of these things.  You have to pack, for one thing, and your legs don't get a chance to work out the kinks.

Packing was more trouble than I'd imagined.  I had purchased the hard case and had it delivered ... well ... it's not only hard sided but it's hard to pack.  With no "give", I had a devil of a time getting everything in the case.  Wheels, for instance, fit nicely with tires mounted, not so nicely otherwise -- it's that tight.  I may simply remove tires and tubes next time.  The biggest problem was getting the bars and fork in the box.

I started dismantling the bike just after 11pm and finished packing ... or at least gave up on making it any better, at 3:30 ... yes, that's 3:30 a.m.  My taxi was coming at 6:10 a.m. (leaving time to hit the breakfast that opened at 6am), so basically I got an hour sleep -- after very little sleep on the ride !

Hamid slept through all my packing, dead to the world, snoring a little at times.  He'd already packed.  His strategy is to use two bike boxes -- I have two now and might follow his lead -- which means less dismantling.

I slept in the shuttle to SeaTac;slept on the plane; Sandy met me at Arrivals and we stayed at the Aloft again at the airport.  Sleeping is a good way to kill a travel day. I needed to catch up !

My airplane row was a little crowded. Five of us.  Mom, eight-year-old daughter, me and two American Girls.  The three of them in the middle seat played quietly.  I had the window; Mom had the aisle.

Today is underway.  I'll blog about that later.  I've got to finish the ride write-up !

Onward.
