The rest of the day played out pretty quickly; it goes quickly when you sleep some of it away !
I finished up my laundry -- three batches -- 1) civies; 2) regular washable cycling clothes (jerseys, shorts, socks etc.), 3) not really washable cycling clothes (rain jacket, rain pants, gloves etc.). The latter I soaked in the laundry tub along with a bit of clorox for colors, simply for deodorizing, then did the rinse-and-spin thing in the washer and hung it all out to dry. All this stuff can start to smell pretty "swampy" after a while !
Mass was in Loring, so I got to visit with Christine and Maurice again, Anne and her Paul and my Aunt Ruth. They only had one "kid" in tow but the kids are taller than the adults these days. They were all going to make a trip to the LCBO to stand outside and catch up on email -- the only place that you can get cell service in the area.
Anne and Paul have put in Xplornet so I'm not sure why the LCBO trip was really necessary, perhaps force of habit ? Their place is next door to my Aunt's.
Paul has retired. Anne has four ... count 'em ... four more days of work. I expect that we'll see them this winter. That would be great.
Back home, we had a usual late dinner, sausage/broccoli/potatoes (the latter not for me). The girls played some games; Lauren working her way through everything that we have, and then watching a recorded movie on the plex server.
I'm checking into replacing my cycling earbuds; one died on me. When I started looking at them online, it's a pretty common thing for them to die. Mine are long out of warranty, so I'm not trying to chase that. I've gotten what I might consider as full value although when you think about it, without abuse, they should last pretty much forever. The thing is, I consider my use as abuse. They're really designed for recording studio use and I'm out there sweating buckets. All it takes is a microscopic drop of salty sweat to kill the electronics.
The buds are made by Westone and I've got the silicone custom ear pieces vs the off-the-shelf rubber pieces. All I need to replace is one of the buds, but I'll order a new set so that I have the spare cord and existing bud. The version that I have uses one driver at $149, but there are successive versions with multiple drivers, each basically $100+ more than the prior. I wonder what the six driver ear buds sound like ? I think those are priced at $999 ...
I've got to do my blog from the ride before it all goes stale in my mind. A certain amount of randonnesia is good when I do the blog as it reduces some of the whining.
I just looked through the pictures that John posted on the ride blog and found myself in a couple from the Saratoga Control. That was the first night. There was also a "rolling" picture of me from the day before but it wasn't very illuminating.
On my way back out, dressed and ready for a cold start, bringing my drop bag down from the room.
Having some breakfast, raisins and luncheon meat (?) and checking out the day's cue sheet with Paul Foley. Paul did the pre-ride and was managing that Control. I'd met him the year before when he rode my Sunshine 1200k.
I need two things, clearly. A chiropractor and a haircut. I'm going to try and get both done in Sudbury this week !
Onward !
